Daft time to do that isn't it after a shit December. A month ago and any Poll would have had a different result.
Well Mowbray´s family were always saying give him till Christmas. And here we are . . . . In 14th place, staring up at Preston once again. And currently 7 points of the play-offs which could even be 9 if tomorrow´s results go ´against us´.

If he was going to get potted, now would be a good time in terms of where we are and how many games a new man would have.
No clown appointments though.
TBH I can't see it happening.

Just read the guy who scored 2 was the centre half, our forwards need shooting practise,25/per Cent of our shots on Target.

41 mins 30 seconds in just listen to Steven Warnock's criticism of Brighton's defending on Sunday night. You should because it applies to us and has done for way too long. Hoping to go gung ho and outscore opponents is just stupid. It's the football of Kevin Keegan's teams.
BBC iPlayer - Match of the Day 2 - 2020/21: 27/12/2020

This is one fault that we see the same time and time again from the Rovers. We unprofessionally allow opponents to put the ball into the danger area time and again without proper attempts to get in close and close them down. Just the same with tracking back from midfield, we don't do it and when we do we still don't get close enough to prevent shots going in on target. It's completely unprofessional, especially when against a team managed by someone who has played over 550 professional games in defensive positions and it never NEVER gets any bloody better! Tonight we were beaten by two very good but quite easily preventable goals but unfortunately poor defensive play has not been confined to just this match. OK so by the end of tonight Ayala had gone off injured as had Nyambe, Bell isn't confident enough but to date is better than the full back to replace him whilst Lenihan was walking on egg shells after being booked and then spoken to shortly after by the Referee. I wasn't privy to what was said bit it's guineas to nut's that it was along the lines of 'final warning, next time you are off son.'
Small wonder Mowbray looked dispirited and down during his post match interview. but tbh his team have been brittle and a soft touch for far too long. Rem the first year back in the Championship we gave soft goal after soft goal and conceded an alarming number of points in the last 10-15 minutes of ever so many games. I still have bloody nightmares about going 1-2 up away at Leeds in the 87th minute only to gift two goals in the following 5 minutes to what was simply desperate long ball direct football and lose the match 3-2. Well tonight just down the road from Leeds it was virtually the same ludicrous capitulation!

The match had started pretty brightly with us comfortable in possession and taking the game to Huddersfield whilst they were still finding their feet. It appears that poor Adam Armstrong's luck has well and truly left him in recent weeks. A shot thundered off the post on Saturday and tonight a save few goalkeepers would have been expected to make was saved at the foot of the post. Later on he spurned a clear on goal chance by hitting the side netting but at least got an assist as his shot led directly to Gallagher equaliser. Pointless to suggest now that if he'd have notched those three chances he would have hit the 30 goal target for 2020 and we'd have 5 more points on the board. I did opine a couple of months back that if he lost his midas touch we'd struggle and without his contribution struggle isn't strong enough a word.
As the first half wore on Huddersfield got stronger and stronger. Personally I put this down to Trybull's injury after 10 mins. It seemed obvious to me anyway that TM had selected two defensive midfielders to allow Rothwell the chance to perform less defensive duties and to attack more often. If that was the case why replace him with Lewis Holtby which cramped both their styles and gave Huddersfield the chance to 'weigh on' Bradley Johnson. Seemed with Downing. Buckley and Davenport on the bench and the chance to go like for like without disrupting the formation a poorly thought out decision. Didn't help when Johnson completely lost his man and allowed Sarr a free header to score the opener in the 53rd minute.
So 1-0 down Mowbray made more odd substitutions. With an already weakened midfield after Trybull's injury just what was going through Mowbray's mind to replace midfielder Rothwell with Gallagher, especially as Elliot gave way to Dack at the same time. Changes of personnel are one thing but changes of formation and tactics at the same time is another thing altogether. The final nail in the coffin was when Buckley came on at right back for Nyambe. Nyambe had been OK and with an already disrupted defence and Buckley not being a full back it seemed another odd decision. It was Buckley who played Sarr onside for Huddersfields second and killer goal on 90 minutes, just 4 after we had huffed and puffed our way to a rather fortunate equaliser. Seems that Nyambe had 'felt' his hammy and had been taken off as a precaution.

Kaminsky... 6 No fault with either goal and was competent as GK and make shift sweeper all evening.

Nyambe ... 6 Not at his best, didn't make his customary overlapping runs and sometimes caught out of position. Maybe he's been playing with an injury but I did note before the match that most of Huddersfield's attacks this season have been down the left so maybe he was under orders not to rampage forward.

Lenihan... 6 Rather lucky not to be sent off. With other Refs he might well have.

Ayala... 6 Have we signed a sick note? Looks like he could be out for a few weeks.

Bell.... 6 Usual Bell game ... good things alternated with bad things but he did look more up for the challenge than Douglas has. Send BD back Tony if the terms allow and look for another loan deal.

Elliot.... 4 Never at the races tonight whether in attack or defence. At just 17 is he being overplayed? Kids coming into a team often set off like a house on fire but frequently need to be rested on the bench for a week or three. Elliot is giving credence to that. Showed little evidence tonight of the potential superstar that the Liverpool press have tagged him with. If he is to make it at Liverpool his pace will narrow his options.

Johnson... 5 Battle manfully but looked overworked and overtired tonight. Two games a week looks to be taking it's toll. Lost his man for the opening goal in amateur fashion. Seemed to hold his hand up to his teammates in acknowledgment of his 'rick'.

Trybull .... 6 Seemed solid in partnership with Johnson but difficult to judge after just 10 minutes. Tried to play on but quickly proved unable to continue.

Rothwell... 5 Didn't manage his trademark runs into the box tonight and didn't put much into his defensive duties once Trybull had gone off.

Brereton... 5 Added something in the way of left sided play but again displayed his weaknesses and limitations as a Championship level footballer. Seems to have turned into a diver too this season.

Armstrong... 6 Looked as always the man most likely but simply can't buy a goal at present, did keep trying and eventually provided the assist for Gallagher's equaliser on 86.

Subs

Holtby (Trybull 10)... 4 In a poor seam of form at present. Another who neglected his defensive duties imo and was largely anonymous in attack too.

Dack (Rothwell 64)..4 One decent pass but otherwise not the influence on proceedings that we had hoped for.

Buckley (Nyambe 64).. 5 Struggled at right back, and went to sleep in not stepping up to play Sarr offside.

Gallagher (Elliot 64)...4 Scored with an accomplished finish but the goal was disallowed for offside. Rest of proceedings he brought nothing to the party and looked his more usual clumsy, 2nd-touch-is-a-tackle self.

Downing (Ayala 72) ... 5 Did Ok without providing the quality needed at that time. Has he had his day? I'd say so,

Tony Mowbray... 4 Looked very very dispirited in his post match interview. A once promising season is going sour on him and he appears unable to prevent it. Yet again saw his injury list lengthen just as it looked like it was easing. Lose again v Brum and we might be looking down the table rather than up it.

Referee Matt Donohue.. 8 I'd happily see him referee our matches many times. Got some decisions wrong but many more right. Perhaps should have had his card out to one or two of Huddersfields growlers sooner but on the other hand chose to have a stern word with Lenihan when others might have shown him the red. Wasn't fooled by Brereton's ever more frequent play acting.

Great review as always - but a bit mean not to credit Gallagher with his "good" goal as well ;)
I did mention it in passing steve but tbh by the time i finished that my eyes were dropping and I couldn't be arse checking it back and just hit send.
I still believe in the final analysis that the good buys by Mowbray (of which there are plenty) will be outweighed by the amount he spewed on the two numpties whose lack of talent drags the team performances down. As the old football manager saying goes..... "If you don't get rid of bad players, they'll get rid of you".

1st goal a rovers player was on the front post and went walk about, the 2nd if he was onside is a great goal, the great save from hudders goalie looked over the line at the first view.
Near post wanderer was Holtby, if he'd got back on the post he may well have stopped that header.
Second was a goal of real quality, first the chip over the top (made under no pressure) and then the run and great finish. Especially from a centre half. From what I could see on the replay it was Buckley over on the far side who hadn't moved up and had played him onside.
Just to add Johnson played a big part in giving away both goals. Seemed to me that Sarr was his man for the first although tbf he is one big unit. For the second he saw the chip going over his head and must have been aware of a blue and white shirt moving to meet it from the corner of his eye yet he made absolutely no attempt to turn and cover. ,
If there is an excuse it's our injury list I guess I don't need to say that Buckley doesn't have the instincts of a full back and Johnson doesn't possess those of a centre half.

Yet we did not have a CB on the bench,Carter may not be the answer but he needs to be on the bench.I figured it was Holtby this morning and the way he just looked back saw the goal go in and scarpered before the finger could be pointed at him.His dip in form seems to around the birth of his child,If I was Mowbray I'd give him a couple of weeks of and let him go back to Germany, because his attitude to the 1st goal was a disgrace.
