The phrase 'after the horse has bolted' springs to mind. As much as the referee's decisions were a major factor in our downfall, in my opinion the worst decision of the night was the one where Mowbray decided to play a 5-2-3 formation (Gally replacing Travis in the starting 11), completely killing Rothwell and Buckley in the process. Why on earth would you upset the balance of the team AND 'self-nullify' your creative assets in order to bring in that big lummox?!?Blackburn Rovers players brand Hull City match postponement a "shambles' | ITV News Granada
Just to add my mate txt me at HT to say we played that first half with 9. Gallagher, Buckley and JRC being hopeless. However they were the three that TM dragged off 15 minutes or so later. Well spotted that man.
Tony Mowbray...5 Cut a disappointed figure as his team took so long to get going and even when dominant in the 20 minutes after HT didn't really trouble a rather nervous looking Baxter in the Hull goals. Seemed that McCann spent longer on his homework for this match than Mowbray did.
I was absolutely astounded... bloody Davenport must be desperate to leave the club and start again. Seemingly Mowbray doesn't trust him at all and his time with us is surely at an end when the manager goes out of his way to upset the balance of the team and pick Gallagher instead of you.
As for Buckley being hopeless... he was lost in a two-man midfield and offered no protection whatsoever. Even then he still played the three key-passes of the evening (to Brereton for the pen appeal, Khadra to go round the keeper and get cleared off the line, and through the lines to BB who laid in Edun for the half chance on the byline).
If TM doesn't trust Davenport and seemingly Johnson can't do more than 20minutes anymore, then we MUST look for a defensive minded midfielder for the second half of the season - this idea of going with three attackers is absolutely dead, especially with a back 5.
