Don't they have VAR in Italy?
tbh that was stupid of course but in reality nothing more an excessive 'shove'. No way would it have hurt Azpilicueta. Modern football has conditioned players to play dead at every opportunity hasn't it?
One thing that doesn't ever get mentioned is why he did it? It's never going to have been a one off and in my experience would have been a reaction or response to something that went on earlier. No doubt Azpilicueta will have ....
a. Questioned his parentage.
b. grabbed his balls in a corner / free kick melee.
c. Stamped on his toes in a similar ruck.
d. Left his foot in on a challenge
etc
etc
etc.
It's gone on for time immemorial. I recall a massive goalkeeper who must have been 6ft 6 and 17 stone kicking the ball up field during one Sunday League game and then chasing me to give me a boot up the arse. I could tell that he was just a bully. If I'd reacted there and then I'd have been sent off so I bided my time.
Three months later in the return fixture I gave him a friendly tap on the back of his head with my boot to remind him that I hadn't forgotten as he dived on a cross in front of me and I saw my chance. He went absolutely ape and the next attack grabbed me from the side with one huge hand gripping my shirt at the front and another my shirt at the back, he was spitting fury about what he was and wasn't going to do with me. A quick butt with my arms by my side and the pain of a seriously flattened nose caused him to forget all about the bump on the back of his head and let go of me and clasp his hands to his face. Off injured immediately and the Ref never saw a thing. Lesson learned I should imagine. If there had been VAR back then down at Pleasi fields I'd have been banned for weeks.
