In fairness it was reckless but he had his eyes on the ball at all times. These things happen in games played at high tempo.

Disastrous game by Sweden yesterday against Georgia (lost it!!!). When it matters the most they underachieve as usual. Now we just have to beat Spain on Sunday in Seville and we are through to the finals :D

Golden hat trick for Harry Kane last night. He definitely needed that.

There’s some ungrateful short memoried buggers all around Europe. They’d all be speaking bloody German if it wasn’t for us!

(Of course not forgetting our glorious commonwealth forces and those that escaped Nazi Europe, in particular the incredible Polish and Czech pilots.)

How come Sweden always seem to save their best performances for games against England?
That’s a very good question Gordon. Personally I think it’s because Swedes have always admired English football and somewhat some of your culture (hence a Swede on this message board?) since they started showing English games in the 70s on Swedish telly. Muddy pitches in dark November with heroic players with wild haircuts and moustaches is a wet dream from every woman and man, right?
So therefore the games versus England have always been a bit special in different ways. Home of the football, once seen as one of the best national teams in the world to play against and finally old Wembley. I guess that’s why you have a bit of status in Sweden.

I’ll never forget THAT Ibrahimovic goal against us for Sweden, wow. He was some player and I believe still playing in Italy at the age of 65?

That was an incredible goal. The problem with him is that he has never been a team player and never will be even though he might almost be 65.
Sweden lost with 1-0 yesterday so we need to play in the playoffs next year. Hopefully we can avoid Portugal in the draw at least.

Another farce of a match tonight. 39 mins on the clock and England 5-0 up already v San Marino.

0-10. Fair play to England but let's be honest it was a wasted exercise. Nations like San Marino shouldn't be figuring at this stage of the World Cup.Te

Don't they have VAR in Italy?:D

tbh that was stupid of course but in reality nothing more an excessive 'shove'. No way would it have hurt Azpilicueta. Modern football has conditioned players to play dead at every opportunity hasn't it?

One thing that doesn't ever get mentioned is why he did it? It's never going to have been a one off and in my experience would have been a reaction or response to something that went on earlier. No doubt Azpilicueta will have ....
a. Questioned his parentage.
b. grabbed his balls in a corner / free kick melee.
c. Stamped on his toes in a similar ruck.
d. Left his foot in on a challenge
etc
etc
etc.
It's gone on for time immemorial. I recall a massive goalkeeper who must have been 6ft 6 and 17 stone kicking the ball up field during one Sunday League game and then chasing me to give me a boot up the arse. I could tell that he was just a bully. If I'd reacted there and then I'd have been sent off so I bided my time.
Three months later in the return fixture I gave him a friendly tap on the back of his head with my boot to remind him that I hadn't forgotten as he dived on a cross in front of me and I saw my chance. He went absolutely ape and the next attack grabbed me from the side with one huge hand gripping my shirt at the front and another my shirt at the back, he was spitting fury about what he was and wasn't going to do with me. A quick butt with my arms by my side and the pain of a seriously flattened nose caused him to forget all about the bump on the back of his head and let go of me and clasp his hands to his face. Off injured immediately and the Ref never saw a thing. Lesson learned I should imagine. If there had been VAR back then down at Pleasi fields I'd have been banned for weeks.

I think he’s done a good job personally. What don’t you like about him?

He has done a decent job and has placed his faith in youngsters too. However he spewed it in the WCup Semis by trying to sit back and defend against a decent but by no means great Croatian team. He failed of course. England's current strength is in attack and our weakness is in defence so logic dictates that was a stupid tactic. Did he learn from that? Did he hell he then attempted to defend for most of the match against Italy. Wasn't it Einstein who said to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result is the definition of insanity?

I expect such will be met with Water cannon, tear gas, rubber bullets and baton charges in the World Cup. I'm sure they would in Russia or China etc.
