An obvious move for the FA's gin and tonic brigade but the requirement for an international manager is vastly different to that of a club manager. Club managers preach an ethos through having constant contact with their players whilst the major requirement for an international manager who sees them for just about 4 times a season is as a tactician and motivator.

I think it was the Barnsley Tykes who used to belt out "It's just like watching Brazil" during their brief stay in the Premier League (and just before they sold us their Ronaldo in the guise of Ashley Ward). Well watching England last night was just like watching the Rovers! Lots of possession ruined by a shot shy attack after the midfield had finished 'over footballing' outside Ukraine's penalty area by continually passing square, wide and backwards!
Pathetic tactics! Any team wanting to overcome a stubborn defence needs to take 1 or 2 touches, pass quickly and turn the defenders to face their own goals. It's not rocket science and all the possession in the world does not translate into goals with slow ponderous 2/3/4 touch passing. Southgate is an enigma, sometime he does good and sometimes his team plays with massive naivety at a pace which some pundits who shouldn't even be in the studio sagely calling it a "patient" build up. Now I'm not advocating throwing caution to the wind and going all gung ho a la Keegan's Mags of the 90's but it's notable that all of that square passing came to nowt and England's equalising goal came from a long punt out of defence by Harry Kane of all people, over the top to Kyle Walker who beat the offside trap, controlled it and knocked it past the Ukraine keeper. Simples and a goal straight of the much criticised (and frequently reviled by the millions of know nowt Roy Race fans out there) Big Sam Allardyce. This isn't to suggest long ball stuff is all good but as with corners, free kicks etc footballers need to mix it up a bit. Personally speaking I shouldn't be surprised to discover that Southgate was preparing a post match bollocking for Harry just as Walker swept the ball past the keeper!

Far too many people think that you are old and antiquated, which is so far from the truth. There's nobody ahead of you in football terms. Not Pep. Not Klopp. Not Arteta. It's all there with you. You shared it with them. They do what they do, and you do what you do, but in terms of knowledge and depth of knowledge, you're up there with them. I'm not saying you're better than them, but certainly as good as they are. I just wish sometimes that you got the opportunity that you can show it but that's never going to happen for you now so here's your chance to top Bolton Butcher's 100% England record.

Just days after a poor showing against the Ukraine and it's Scotland 1 v England 3 and now with the entire jingoistic press and media having us winning the next World Cup with Jude Bellingham being compared to pele/ maradonna etc!
Jeez! Scotland are a bang ordinary team! Bellingham is a top talent for sure but that's nowt new, he's been the same for a couple of years! We do have others also with a level of talent similarly above the normal in grealish, Saka and Kane and we must be one of the top international squads in the world but ffs let's not let the press and media get us all carried away on one performance against a pretty poor team.

Well Gazza had the perfect international manager in Sir Bobby and I don’t think you can get better guidance and control from anyone else. The problem with these talented footballers originates in their heads. Bellingham seems to be very mature indeed, he will be England captain soon.

Unfortunately Gazza had Venebles as his club manager and Jimmy 5 Bellies as his best mate. Robson never stood a chance. He should have gone to Man Utd where it's my belief the discipline of Harrison (and Ferguson's) class of '92 would have saved his career and his health.
