That day a lad called Chris Anderson made his debut on the right wing. On one occasion he beat the full back went back pretending to pick up his chewing gum and beat the full back again. He wound the defender up so much he won the three penalties. It looked like we had unearthed an absolute gem but his ego and lifestyle didn't match his ability and he was playing for Lion Brewery in the Blackburn Combination only a few years later.
When I played Sunday League in the late 70's and early 80's it was littered with Chris Andersons. 'You can take a kid out of Blackburn but you cant take Blackburn out of the kid' is as true a truism as can be.

Of course you mean Eddie Crossan my idol as a youngster. His dribbling was as good as anybody's I have seen but he was a flawed diamond when it came to the final ball. If the Man City game you mention is the one I am thinking about, Rovers won 4-1, Bert Trautman saved 2 penalties by Les Graham and half the ground thought we had missed a 3rd when Bill Eckersley broke the net with it. Of course Eddie Crossan! what am I thinking? If that game was 1949 then it must be the one.

Sounds exciting but I was probably asleep!

Hi All, I am Majiball aka Maj, long time rovers fan, having first seen rovers play chelsea way back when I was 4. Love football, played a decent level and muck around in grassroots these days. Full-time venky hater, who loves good debate and banter. Well done to the lads behind the scenes, fingers crossed it does well.
How many forums have banned you Maj? :D

Just trying to be a little more user friendly mattyblue. We are however well aware that we can only ever be as good as the contributers.
Welcome.

Afternoon all. Discovered this chat utopia last week, and only got around to registering today. Happy to see a lot of familiar names I have missed on the other side. Looking forward to reading some interesting insight and debate, and it appears thus far to be much more light hearted and amicable. Like a Tony Mowbray-like breath of fresh air all round. Hoping to see it continue on all fronts.

Good that! Nice analogy Doaksie, or should that be 'comparison'? Welcome.
