July 3, 1973. The day the music died?

A new topic to complement ODB's "What's your favourite tipple at the moment?"

Forget the 80's, for me the ultimate era for music was the late 60's and early 70's - although there is a lot of new stuff worth listening to, (with a glass or two of rioja, or a glass of the 'ginger lady').

So, what are you good folks listening to?
Let's hear it!

That’s a great track SLKS .

My golden era of music was similar . I love Motown , Soul and Disco but also enjoyed the Glam Rock of the early 70s . T - Rex , Bowie , Roxy Music and Mott the Hoople to name a few. Coincidentally we’re off the Manchester tonight , going to Band on the Wall .

Hope they play this :

My taste varies. Goldfrapp, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Megadeth, Joy Division, AC/DC, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Blondie. List goes on and on. All time fave track- The final countdown. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

Good thread pal. As I get a bit more mature shall we say I find myself liking a bit of the modern country stuff, The Shires, Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town to name a few. However my roots are firmly in Rock n roll as this was the stuff that my parents played when I was a child. My Mum loved The King whilst Dads singles collection especially, included most artists from the sixties.

Got two stations on spotify, one for the 1960 era and one for Jazz.
The Jazz station gets a belting.
Being a tight bastard, I won't pay for premium, so I put up with adverts, but I do cut them short when I can.

Welcome CLW, good to have you on board.

I always put a jazz station on as background when we have people round for a meal / supper.

A bit of Napalm Death or Slayer works a treat as dinner party background music. Give them a try.

Sounds like you've been listening to Whispering Bob Harris' Country Show of a Thursday night ODB? I picked up some up some decent tips listening to him (Rita Hosking, Elizabeth Cook and Tiff Merrit to name a few). Shame he stopped doing his Saturday night / Sunday morning slot!

I haven’t but I intend to, what station is he on?

The named bands are just ones I’ve come across and found I like. Thanks for the tip pal.

Now I've quite a varied taste in music but I have to say that I really hate folk music. Even worse than that bloody awful country and western..... or as the old joke goes 'some cu*t from Preston'.

For OOT. Further to the 'Matchday Music' thread and re Bryan Ferry.
I know what I'll be listening to this evening, after a few glasses of Malbec and with a Macallan's or two. We're on Series 3 of Babylon Berlin. Ferry wrote the soundtrack, or some of it. I think he even makes a cameo appearance in one episode. Pure class:

My early memories are of Dad playing his Bing Crosby and Perry Como vinyls. I can still listen to that era.

As a youngster and growing up I was heavily influenced by what Lux and Caroline were playing.

More of a Stone than a Beatle but have appreciated the latters songbook more as Ive got older.

I think I'm basically a Rocker but like most music apart from Rap, which IMHO is crap. I gave it a try, the answer was no.

Went to lots of concerts when earning a wage in the 70s into the 80s so saw most of the top groups in their heyday. Status Quo and Hawkwind damaged my hearing, but loved it. Saw Queen live early days. Stones and Beatles too.

I've been on a Diamond trip today. God bless YT.
