July 3, 1973. The day the music died?

Always thought I was born a bit after my time ARA, and your post just confirmed it.
Some standout live concerts that I really enjoyed were Love Affair, Mungo Jerry, Marmalade and I will admit to it, the Bay City Rollers.

Saw Slade 5 times times, gave up on them live when I got kicked in the head by a girl on her boyfriends shoulder and got pissed on when lying dazed on the floor. Actually it was the subsequent brawl that maybe influenced my thinking.

Great days.

This thread got me thinking about things music.

The first single I recall playing was one of my eldest brothers collection. It was a Beatles song that I like to this day, This Boy. It was a B side song but is still one I like.

The first album I bought was Chicago Transit Authority, an early but true progressive rock band then. I must have saved up from Summer jobs as I was still at School then.

Sometimes the B side is as good as, if not better, than the A side. "Get Rhythm" by Johnny Cash was originally released as the B-side to the single "I Walk the Line" in 1956 (just happened to hear that on the radio yesterday). How about Songbird? B side on Fleetwood Mac's Dreams.

The first single I bought was "I'd like to teach the world to sing" by the New Seekers.
First album was Arrival by Abba.
However, one year later, my first live gig was Motorhead in the Windsor Hall (under KGH).
Couldn't hear a thing till next day at school and been a rocker ever since.

Last night I stayed up late and with the advent of Amazon echo, instead of playing an album, I was jumping from Rush to Simon & Garfunkel, King Crimson, Metallica, Chili Peppers, Beatles, Motorhead, Beach Boys, Oasis and all of a sudden it was 1:30am.
Hasn't had a drink, honest 😉

First record? Bit of a chicken and egg situation. Girl next door but one bought me Bowie's The Jean Genie / Ziggy Stardust for Christmas '72 and then had to loan me a record player as I didn't have one at that time! Only record I had so it was funny I didn't wear the needle right through the vinyl I played it that much. I recall it made No 2 in the UK charts and was kept off top spot by Jimmy bloody Osmond's godawful Long haired lover from Liverpool.:poop:

My first two proper gigs were The Clash and Motorhead, I don't think I could have bettered that choice at the time.

For OOT. Further to the 'Matchday Music' thread and re Bryan Ferry.
I know what I'll be listening to this evening, after a few glasses of Malbec and with a Macallan's or two. We're on Series 3 of Babylon Berlin. Ferry wrote the soundtrack, or some of it. I think he even makes a cameo appearance in one episode. Pure class:

Yes I recognise that track SLKS . It’s called Bitter Sweet and it’s off Roxy’s 4th Album ‘ Country Life ‘ . The album cover featured two German models in particularly provocative poses , worth buying just for the cover , in the name of art of course !

Spent time today relistening to Chicago Transit Authority, the first album, via the newly discovered, by me anyway, YouTube music app. Brilliant as most had video too. On launch the app had looked at my previous music habits on YT and made recommendation to fit. Good day here.

My first album will have been Tears for Fears-Songs from the big chair. I love my music. Taste is so varied. Goldfrapp my fave. 70/80/90s. Most metal bands.
Not been to many concerts just-Goldfrapp, Elton John, Pretty Reckless. That is it.

I saw Pretty Reckless at Manchester academy about four years ago

Alison Goldfrapp is brilliant, I’ve also discovered Jessie Ware who is pretty good, give her a listen pal.
