Bob Dylan - no not at all, OOT. but I get why others are. Agree, some writers should leave the delivery to better performers. Billy Bragg's probably another one.

Without doubt Dylan’s lyrics in ‘ Hard Rains A Gonna Fall ‘ were deep , meaningful, and thought provoking . Just like the best writers / poets he communicated with creativity , imagination and feeling . I get that .

However when you decide to transfer those words into a song , then it’s the melody that takes over . Songs are created for communicating melody . Melody turns the words into something that’s pleasant to the ears . In a poem for example , it’s the words that are the main focus , in a song it’s the melody .

Dylan’s voice isn’t melodic , it grates on the ears and is particularly unpleasant . First time I’ve heard Patti Smith , but she’s not much of an improvement on Dylan Did she forget the words or is she just a good actress ? Just googled her and she wrote/ sang a song “ Smells Like Teen Spirit “ Are you a fan SLKS ?

Come on OOT, I know you're mainly a Motown man but surely you knew "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the song that thrust Nirvana into the big time?

Sorry SLKS mislead you , I was referring to the “ Smells Like Teen Spirit “ I thought you might be a fan of the song as your moniker is fairly similar .

Ha ha ha ! I’m sure I’ll get hung , drawn and quartered by some of the music aficionados on here , but Nirvana must have completely passed me by . Probably busy bringing up the children when they were ‘ thrust ‘ into the big time !

Ditto OOT. There are certain bands that are/have been mega that I could hardly name a track they played. Pink Floyd along with most of the 70's rock bands being one I'm afraid to say. People play 'familiar' rock tracks (some get out the old air guitar for supposed effect) and I've absolutely no idea who they are by.

I know Van Morrison is campaigning to restore live music concerts with full capacity audiences, but I've a feeling this pandemic might have ended any last chance we had to see of the likes of the The Who (England's best ever rock band?), Fleetwood Mac and the ultimate rock come back, one last Led Zep tour. So many things have changed in 2020, but heck, watching Fleetwood Mac in their prime; somehow, our Stevie seems to have made the time stand still...
