Tennis. A great game to play but what a bore to watch. Except the girls of course!

Good on Ash Barty, taking out the French Open.
As an aside, I'm pretty certain she could play under the England banner (as her mum was born to english immigrants )who married an indigenous bloke.

Absolutely appalled,
Just seen a photo of Ash Barty in front of the recent winners of the Ladies singles at Wimbledon.
In 1980 there was Mrs R Cawley
In 1981 there was Mrs J M Lloyd.

Total disrespect to them as individuals as:
Yvonne Goolagong (1980) and
Chris Evert (1981)

I take it those are the respective ladies husbands names?

It's simply the correct formal description for a married lady isn't it?

Shouldn't let this young lady's achievement go without mention.
The first qualifier in grand slam history to make the final.
Let's hope she wins it.
Hasn't dropped a single set all tournament too 😯

She seems a nice kid too. None of the sulky demeanour of some tennis players.

It's great to see another Brit at the top of their sport.
That, Al, is disrespecting all those other players that are above her in the tennis rankings.
She is now at #23, good, undoubtley, but there are 22 above her that have done the hard yards as well.

You old Killjoy you! Let her have her moment in the sun. I'll wager none of the other 22 have ever won a major without dropping a set! Tbh I can only think of a few similar sporting declarations of intent from complete newbies and they all became superstars. Ali, Bolt, Becker and Ms raducanu.

Drog, if "her day in the sun", is a "british sunny day", then that's it, isn't it?
I can acknowledge her achievement, but the call, in some of the dross you call newspapers, for her to be given a gong, is ridiculous.
FFS she earned $1.8 mill.

Al did call her as "at the top of her sport", she may make it, but she's not there yet.

Miss Radacanu’s achievement is outstanding, her tennis a joy to watch . I’ve never been a big fan of the sport , but I’m thrilled for her and British tennis . Hopefully she’ll win many more grand slams and be a marvellous ambassador going forward .

She was born in Canada , has a Romanian dad and a Chinese mum . Naturally beautiful and intelligent without tattoos ( I hope ! ) , false nails and slug eyebrows and , despite living in London since she was two , speaks with a delightful English accent , instead of that ridiculous ‘ Jafrican ‘ accent they all seem to have down there , just listen to Harry Kane .

Emma and her parents are exactly the sort of ‘ immigrants’ who add value , importantly embracing our culture , taking advantage of everything this great country has to offer and thriving . Her reaction to the Queen ‘s message of congratulation was heartwarming , I think she’s quoted as wanting to frame it .

What a change from the sour faced leftie politicians, pseudo intelligentsia, sports ‘stars’ and ‘celebrities’ who despise this country and trash our history, but who are now jumping on the Radacanu bandwagon and attempting to make divisive political capital out of her success .

MY reply, Al, was to point out that you had not acknowledged that there are 22 others above her in the rankings. They had done the hard yards too. It was in no way slighting her achievements.

Top of the pile currently is an Aussie, Ash Barty, a similarly level headed person not unlike Raducanu. Barty has had her mental health issues like Osaka and Raducanu. She took two years away from tennis to play cricket in the WBBL and came back a different person.
I just hope that Raducanu remains level headed, focussed, and injury free, so we can all enjoy her talent for some time to come..
Too many, across many sports, have burned bright early, only to fade and disappear into mediocrity.
