Yes I understand that . Its more about No 10 and No 11 singing from the same hymn sheet . Unfortunately and understandably Sajid couldn’t continue on the basis that his advisors had to go . I guess that’s the dog eat dog world of politics

However the fact that Cummings is from Durham and has previously expressed concerns about north - south inequality and the new Chancellor is from a northern constituency , certainly won’t hinder intentions to level up .

Cummings is from the north , Rishi Sunak represents a northern constituency . No 10 and No 11 will work together with the aim of prioritising the north , especially with regard to spending on infrastructure . The first government to do that in my lifetime . Membership of the EU project resulted in London and the South East growing at the expense of the North .

Why isn't the Northern phase of HS2 being built first?
Most people will be dead (or certainly have forgotten) by the time the money runs out and that part is either cancelled or downgraded to the cheaper (and slower) tracks.

Yes I thought that from the start . Why didn’t they start in Manchester and Leeds and then build ‘ HS2b’ from Birmingham to London? Apparently a rail ‘ expert’ said that building it that way would create a bottleneck at Birmingham with big numbers of passengers from Manchester and Leeds getting off and using existing line/s to get to London . Not sure how valid that argument is , but I’m no rail expert . Very rarely use the trains .

Perhaps the Labour rail guru and HS2 mastermind Lord Adonis is the man to ask

I don't think the current time from Preston to London on the west coast line is a problem at just over 2 hours. It's a lot of money just to improve on that. However once you are at preston the train to Blackburn can be a pain. Similarly any cross pennine route is poor with Man to Sheffield just pathetic.
A bonus for HS2 is that passengers will be encouraged to use it and hopefully more goods can be transported North to South on the old rail network. A roll on roll off facility for goods vehicles would be fantastic if it could be implemented. Drivers hours wouldn't be a problem, things could move much faster and the air would be massively cleaner. This I believe is a must to get wagons off the road as we seek to become more carbon neutral. We've got too used to wagons delivering things at short notice but if needs must the railway is a much cleaner alternative.
I've been off work for a time confined to watching daytime TV and I have to say I've been fascinated by 2 mile long freight trains in Australia.

These reports never seem to mention migration from outside of the EU, which has gone up.

The Tories will just replace any leaving Europeans with cheap labour from outside the EU. Those that voted for Brexit on the grounds of becoming more British and taking the country back will soon see it's just a fallacy.

End result: A less European and more 3rd World UK. Hurrrahhh!

You have posted depressingly about the state of Blackburn , where Labour has been voted in time and time again by a gullible electorate. Even the Dingles had more sense than that ! Corbyn and Momentum Labour would no doubt have replicated the local party’s ‘ achievements ‘ in Blackburn , but on a national basis .
