Great result on a ground that is not one of our favourites. Game on now! Shrewsbury back on top by 1 point, Wigan 2nd on goals diff from us. Pity we've played most games.

Really good result . Reward for the 800 plus who went down there . As Yoda says keeps the pressure on the top two

Up the Rovers

Phew!
Was convinced they would score when 7 minutes of added time was announced.
Great to see Lenihan back playing.
Shame about Travis red card but we really needed that win and good to see Armstrong starting to get the goals.

Well done Rovers. We needed a fighting performance like that after some recent powder puff performances and lost points.

Highlights. Lucky bounce for our second and both teams could have had more goals.
Seemed a rash challenge by Travis

No excuse for that tackle by Travis. Nowhere near the ball, a flying lunge and a real leg breaker. As plain a red card as you will see.

As for their goal. A lack of awareness by our defenders. Goalkeeper gone awol and 4 players within a couple of paces of the scorer and not one of em thought to pick him up.

Incidentally somewhere in that build up Nyambe went down after seemingly getting an innocuous tap on the head off Downing's (?) boot. He got up Ok but the next moment was writhing around on the deck holding his head and then stretchered off. No idea what it was unless something had been thrown by the crowd.

The impact from Raya I think caused Nyambe to bite his own tongue and cut into it causing a bleed. I've done that and know it's beyond painful.

Great result by Rovers! and glad Bowyer got a win for our sake and Blackpools.

I bet it's not easy keeping it still whilst the stitches are going in either. However if that was indeed the problem did he actually need to roll around on the ground and worse still be carted off on a stretcher though? He'd have had to do that in amateur football I'm sure.

btw... I'm amazed that Simon Garner never bit through his own tongue tbh. He had a strange habit all his career of sticking it out whilst he was in possession and particularly whilst shooting.
Sorry couldn't find a pic of him doing that in a rovers strip so Wycombe Wanderers strip will have to do.

I know but I'm not apologising twice waggy! What should I do? Stick pins in my eyes for an hour as a punishment?

2 goals for Armstrong last night at Portsmouth. I know that I am blowing my own trumpet here but whilst it's early days the lad is currently looking like another Bradley Dack! http://roversfans.com/index.php?threads/owd-em.547/page-3#post-22983
"Subs
Armstrong... 7 I like this player. Superb finish for the equaliser and this lad looks to 'enjoy' playing football. "

I might be proven wrong but he does look like one of those players (Speedie / Dickov) who will have the cahoneys to lift his performance and influence on his teammates when the going gets even tougher psychologically as the season draws to a close.

That looks imbalanced and well out of kilter to me OOT.
Yeah I realised that after I'd posted it , probably the reason why my Sunday League managerial career only lasted two years . How could I leave out Armstrong ! Much more difficult picking sides than playing in them :)

Anyway onto last night . Good result as it's a really tough place to win . I'd be interested to find out how Downing fared in the 442 and then when Rovers went to 5 at the back after Lenihan came on . I don't see him as a 'proper' commanding centre half but if TM goes with 5 at the back , I'm sure there's a place for him .

Travis is getting some stick and I can understand why . However in less gentle , less physical times that was the type of challenge the likes of Hunter , Souness, Keane and at Rovers Todd and Neill had in their locker . Don't get me wrong , I'm not condoning the reckless tackle or the resultant sending off that could have cost Rovers 2 points , but I like my midfielders to have a bit of bite and to let the opposition know that when it comes to a battle , they can battle . I've criticised this Rovers outfit for being a bit lightweight and a bit powder puff at times . I'm sure that Travis will learn from this, but I hope he doesn't lose that edge - it can come in handy with the bully boys in this division

I also liked the way Bennett prevented the Portsmouth players from getting to Travis after the incident . Senior pro looking after a youngster

Indeed so. Smallwood is a good example to give, he tackles tough but appears to know where the line in the sand is. Travis has to learn that professional approach. Mowbray needs a quiet word with him to explain and emphasise the need for complete professionalism. He might start by asking Travis where he thinks the 3 points would be this morning should he have done that tackle in the first 5 mins rather than the last 5!

I don't want the lad (Travis) to lose that bite in the tackle. It wasn't pretty but I hated the way the Pompey player writhed around on the ground until he saw the red card then was fine. That sort of thing is more cynical than the tackle and I don't want to see it from any of our players. It could do a lot of damage to a promising young lad's career.
