Less than 3,500 tickets sold for a round of 16 game against a Premiership team. More ammunition for the people viewing the club's support as a laughing stock.

".....it's just before Christmas.... " " we've just had two hammerings in local derby's " " ....it's because of the cost of living.... " " ....it's going to be cold.... "

A few of the likely excuses from people defending the support. It's all bollox, the true reason is apathetic, fickle, miserable, passionless wastes of space.

This will probably be the prelude to the announcement that the Riverside will be shutting for good, following on from the BBE upper. Just knock the whole ground down and re build a nice 15,000 all seater, that'll do for us Blackburn fanatics.

5,000 Forest tickets sold so far. They expect to sell 6k+.

The Club management (playing and non-playing) need to ask themselves why the ticket sales are so poor.

The only positive is that in the only other home game in this cup this year, we sold more tickets in the 2 hours up to kick off than we did in the 2 weeks prior. I fully expect us to sell around 10,000 home tickets for this game, but at the prices and for a game of it's type it's still woeful. If a good few season ticket holders are happy missing what is effectively a free game for them on Saturday, what's the likelihood of them paying even a fiver for a midweek game when it's gonna be a bit cold - bless.

We can blame the club, pricing, poor form etc all we want. This is a chance for us to get into the last 8 of the second biggest domestic cup comp with a Wembley final as a goal, against a Premiership side bringing a big following, you'd think our lot would be dying for it.

I'm not surprised, if the majority struggle to show any real excitement and passion when we're winning, what chance have we got when we're on a bit of a downer. We give up quicker than the players, I wouldn't be judging anyone's effort if I was that type.

I’ll be getting behind the buggars.

None of what I say is aimed at you BB. You're far from a fickle fan, we need more like you, a good balance between not accepting shit and happy clapping through it - like I do - but also showing up and getting behind the team week in week out.

I would die for 20,000 like you instead of 2000.

At lunch time today still less that 4K home tickets sold. Out of our usual group of 8 only 3 of us are going, the rest all say the same in that they can’t take anymore of JDT’s shit football.

A convincing rovers win today should sway a few more to attend Deadwood on Wednesday.

Attendances have been a ongoing worry for me for years, the actual pattern of football shows a decline in people going to watch at this level, I did some research 12-18 months ago on this and gave a letter of suggestions to Waggot but never heard anything back. I reviewed Cardiff, Swansea, Reading, Stoke, Hull, Huddersfield etc and they share a similar declining of year on year figures.

It was the back end of Covid-19 and some of the key suggestions I made was;

Bring the local businesses together on match day and utilise the fan zone area, taking ideas from other clubs whereby they had local food stalls selling homemade foods from Curry to baked goods such as pies and craft beer from small local breweries etc, I wanted us to capitalise on this given the SME's in the area had been effected with Covid and shops shut (Look at the new local pie company which sponsors games), the intention was to use the fan zone and a bit of the back bit of the carpark to have stalls for the games last season when we could attend again at first. Possible Meal Match tickets to be on offer.

I would like to have seen a link up with the Essa brothers who own EG and Asda amongst other businesses including fashion chains. The club could have promoted itself in localist ASDA stores, those customers purchasing over £40.00 of Asda goods qualifying for say £5.00 of a match ticket next home game (Given a coupon with a valid receipt). This would have been a benefit to both Asda and EG Fuel customers as it would have been to the club and possibly attracted more walk on infrequent fans.

Since sliding into the Championship ten years ago, I identified more than 115 brands which had previously supported Rovers from hoarding and advertising, to corporate and player sponsorship which have walked away from the club, some of those still employ in the area such as Crown Paints, to others on the SME scale including fashion brands. I spoke to a number of these brands who've since leaving rovers in 2013 sponsorship wise have never been invited back to the fold.

Business Breakfasts & Corporate event hosting, to use the facilities of Ewood for hosting corporate events including the businesses breakfasts of which we actually have done similar since, I also wanted more player nights q&a's of which we seemed to do something similar with the 2002 Worthington winners night.

Community walls - Like with the bricks, I suggested to get back into schools to assist in PE lessons, run local competitions with schools/after school clubs to art colleges locally to design a mosaic wall at Ewood for local students to display there art, running more soccer camps etc.

Flexi Season Ticket - The Flexi Season ticket for Saturdays only for those not able to make midweek games.

Community Repair and Clean Day - Free ticket to those helping to offer a minimum of 3 hours before a certain game to help re-paint, clean parts of the stadium, I had local businesses specialised for DFT and Network Rail ready to jet wash the stadium etc in exchange for some positive PR from the club.

Supporterts Help a Hand Fund - Designed at targeting sponsors and supporters to create a hardship fund through donations whereby struggling households such as single parents who perhaps can't afford match tickets can I apply to the scheme for a match ticket and this is sponsored by whomever.

They were just a brief few points of many but never seemed to gain traction.

Some brilliant ideas there, I think because we've got a big ground, even people in senior positions at the club have a skewed vision of what type and size of club we are. Lots of those ideas are perfect for a smaller town club like us, to connect to the fans in an area that doesn't have 100's of thousands of potential customers to make up the numbers with the hardcore support on match days.

The fact you didn't get any feedback is criminal.

When I looked at it and bear in mind it was 12-18 months ago, we analysised the abbreviated accounts and the snippets made available, matchday income was an average 3.5 million and commercial 5 ish. I felt this was disappointing and below that of Bolton at the the time and felt given Ewood has a larger commercial advertising space per sqm we should have been doing better, derby at the time we’re taking in 9million before matchday takings alone. I felt 4.5 would have been achievable for matchday in 12 months with some initiates and hard work with ticketing and sponsors. Commercials should hit 7.5, From memory we’ve declined every year on this aspect.

TV revenue is around 7 million since the poor deal Shaun Harvey arranged, this is topped up to about 70k a game when we are shown live on sky. That will be a steady figure with minimal scope for the club to improve until the efl do better, it’s such a poor deal for clubs when you consider the championship is the 5th most watched league around the world and the platforms for streaming online now such as Amazon and Netflix.

There was lots of ideas proposed but ultimately you can’t lead a horse to water. I’ve since given my analysis to others.

I estimate that it must take at least 13,500 ish to just break even in match days currently.

It’s half and half but ultimately it means you have to be more creative and work towards a wider audience.

That's poor form ODB, who wears the pants in your house? Give me your bank details and I'll send you some money so you can buy yourself some nice dresses for Christmas 😀 In all seriousness though, I'm missing the Sunderland game because of family commitments, it was a game I was really wanting to go to, but family comes first I'm afraid.

3-0 Rovers Tomorrow.
