And it was the brothers Wharton involved with a double deflection. So far they have been involved in all three goals.

My part of the JW Upper was ram jam full tonight. Hardly any of them were ST holders, most were family groups on their first visit to Ewood this season - I feel sorry for them.

JDT should have taken Mola off after 10 minutes, he was run ragged. Sadly I cannot see what he brings to the squad.

Travis and the Wharton sisters were also dreadful. As soon as Buckley came on we looked better.

The referee and linesman on the Riversdide stand were very poor. The lino missed clear 3 offsides in the first 30 minutes.

It was men against boys tonight. 1-4 flattered us. A 1-10 score line would have been more reflective of the play. I thought Forest were cynical with their fouls and time wasting; Rovers players are far too nice, we need a couple of hard bastards in our team like Andy Todd or Kevin Moran.

We've been like that for a good while now. In League 1 I felt like Bennett (hardly a hard man himself, but at least had some cajones) was looking after the team single-handedly. Now the best we've got for that is Travis, but he can't impose himself at right-back.

Its fine against teams like Norwich who won't sacrifice their pretty football philosophy for anything. But every other team in the league by now must know the best tactic is to try and bully us.

Attendance: 15,138 (6,576 away)

I wonder how many of our 8,600 were ST holders? I suggest a low percentage.

There were lots of strange faces in the JWU but tbf that is to be expected with the Riverside shut.

We did win possession Husky and the kids played some nice football on occasions but were dealt hammer blows with careless and on occasion amateurish defending. The Forest goals were a horror show! They could put a video together of last night's defensive howlers for use down at the academy for the incoming youngsters. https://www.skysports.com/watch/vid...-1-4-nottingham-forest-carabao-cup-highlights
Star of the show for the last month being another possible relative of George Weah...... Clinton Mola! God only knows how this lad can class himself as a professional footballer. He's absolutely useless! One could make a video of what not to do from his appearances v Burnley, PNE and last night! JDT's insistence to play him surely shadows Graeme Souness's aberration back in the day......... https://sw-ke.facebook.com/GiveMeSport/videos/the-unbelievable-tale-of-ali-dia-/995982397868559/
Souness was suckered and quite rightly binned Ali Dia off after one failed appearance but JDT / Broughton or whoever's insistence that he Mola plays continues to amaze me! Remember the old adage that there are only two things that smell of fish... and one of ems fish? Well I now have three things, the last one being the deal that brought Mola to East Lancs! This lad can't play at all and this was starkly illustrated by the difference in quality when Edun came on at HT. Edun is not comfortable as a left back but in a left sided midfield / creative role he is a decent enough player. Why Mola started before Edun will have to remain a mystery.
Forest, as we all knew they would be as soon as the team sheets saw 11 changes for the Rovers from last Saturday's excellent victory at Norwich, whilst Forest were virtually full strength. Maybe the attitude of both Managers to this match was actually the starting point for last nights exit from the Carabao Cup. JDT obviously with us 3rd in the league prefers to have no distractions in the promotion run in whilst Cooper with his team in the bottom 3 of the Prem needs a good cup run to keep the natives from getting restless.

Pears.... 7 In the shop window it seems this January and he did himself no harm with this showing as he kept the score decent until the latter stages. His kicking is a little suspect and was soon latched onto by the Forest fans who did their utmost to shred his confidence. I must assume that JDT has another GK lined up to be Kaminsky's understudy. Lets just hope it's not another distant relative of George Weah's!

Travis... 4 Appears to have inherited Lenihan's passing ability since he went into the defence. Poor Trav is not suited to the role and that stands out a mile.

Phillips... 6 Despite not looking 17 his birth certificate doesn't lie. Continuing to develop and will be a top CH one day.

Wharton S... 5 Gave the penalty away with a rash challenge after kid brother Adam had left him exposed. Pity was that the forest striker was running wide of the goal at the time. Much has been said in the past of Scott's passing ability and it seems to have made him believe that he is Beckenbauer Mk 2 with the ball at his feet. He isn't.

Mola... 2 Rabbit in headlights, clueless, inept, slow of thought.... add to as appropriate. Should have been a '1' but he did improve in the last 15 minutes of the first half but that's cos the Rovers had got themselves on the front foot and Forest weren't 'weighing on' him.

Wharton A.... 6 Plenty of energy and desire in midfield and provided a fantastic cross from a free kick for brother Scott to head home for the equaliser.

Garrett... 6 Again an energetic performance from a youngster but without the polish of a Buckley or Morton.

Szmodics... 6 Plenty of energy and determination from a player looking to cement a place in the 1st team starting X1 but with no end result.

Markanday... 7 Played brightly and much resembled Dolan in trickery and running with the ball until he tired and was subbed on 72. Could be pleased with his overall performance ......... I know that I was. I'm certainly in no rush to see this lad loaned out in January.

Hedges.... 6 Not his best game and didn't contribute as much as I expected from a senior pro.

Hirst.... 6 One or two bright contributions but doesn't look like a £17k pw man. In fact he rather reminds me of another BBD from his first couple of seasons here.

Subs

Edun (Mola 45).. 7 Offered quite a bit of midfield creativity when he replaced Mola.

Dolan... (Markanday 72) Brought energy to the play and was brutally sandwiched which was amazingly ignored by Referee Jones only for Forest to break fast and stick it in our net within the minute. Had to go off injured on 88 mins which is a real concern.

Buckley.. (Wharton 72) 7 Another encouraging performance and he is starting to look the JB of last season.

BBD.. (Dolan 88) N/A.

JDT.... 5 Obviously would rather have lost at WHU.

Referee Robert Jones 4 I've checked back and after giving him an 8 in 2017 he's greatly disappointed with a 2 and a few low scores , either he or I are inconsistent in our judgement.

Thanks Drog. A very inciteful report. I almost feel that I had watched the game.

All in all our reserves played a pretty much full strength premier league (temporary) side so I don’t think we can complain too much. The playing benefit of our younger lads during the cup run is the most important aspect of the campaign. So now onto Norwich away in the FA Cup!

I think its also worth pointing out that Forest spent a lot of money in the summer. Of the 2 options when you go up:
1. Save the money, go back down, and try to come back stronger next time.
2. Spend the money and try to stay up.

Forest have definitely gone for the 2nd and on paper have a good side IMO. Because they've a lot of new players, PL teams can expose their lack of cohesion. But our reserve team couldn't do that, so it gave them the confidence to play more like their ability suggests.
