One extra bit at the end, but Bacuna was very close to being sent off after a quasi-stamp on Moran. The intent was there.

Made a great save to keep Jutkiewicz out at point-blank in the second-half. Not sure he could have done much about either of Birmingham's goals. The first one was virtually point-blank in the box, and the second was deflected and looped over him.

Travis
OK, but it's silly to get a yellow card so early, and could have even had one in the first few minutes. That it was so early in the game, the referee probably couldn't bring himself to show it. Gets up the pitch well, but felt it was right to take him off at half-time. Not his fault that he's played in a position that isn't favourable to him.

Brittain
Unlucky to not score. Marauded into the Birmingham box all game. Defended well and put his body on the line. He'll reap rewards soon.

Hill
Delighted he got a goal. Clearly likes a shot from outside the box. Sturdy in defence, but he did give the ball away cheaply on a few occasions.

Carter
Barely noticed him, but seemed steady.

Pickering
Solid and dependable. Defended well, and got forward, although to less effect than Brittain.

Tronstad
Poor first half. Gave the ball away often, but had a better second-half.

A Wharton
Excellent. Made one or two mistakes in the first half with loose passes and control, but cut Birmingham's defence open time and again, and grew into the game. I would give him the Man of Match award for what he showed throughout, but...

Szmodics
Have to agree that he was Man of the Match for his superb finishing skills for two sumptuous goals. Absolute quality. As usual, he harassed their defence. A real leader and example to follow.

Moran
Excellent for the most part. Got the assist for Leonard's goal. Dipped a bit towards the end and earned a silly booking, but he was otherwise excellent.

Dolan
Seemed to play well, and hopefully the injury won't put him out for too long.

As for the subs...

Sigurdsson
Very good performance. Did well to defend, and did well to show moments of quality and calm in attack.

Leonard
Did very well. Delighted to see one of our own score. He isn't half bad at holding up the ball and showing strength, and has real quality on the ball. This lad is going to be top, I think.

Overall, I thought that was a great win. I had a feeling it might be a tough game, and so it proved. Birmingham were the better side in the first half, and perhaps deserved a couple of goals for their efforts.

Up to 7th. I feel as though we're looking strong, particularly given our injury list. Looking forward to December and the festive period!

Mad to think that the last time we won a league game at Ewood by more than one goal was against Sunderland over a year ago.

Correction: It was actually just under a couple of hours ago against Birmin'um!

That went from the sublime at the start of the second half to the ridiculous at the middle of the half to euphoria at the end ( at least from me!) as I screamed out when Leonard scored.
The guy reporting on the game assured us that Birmingham were going to equalise only for us to get the goal.
Once again JDT works his magic on a threadbare squad to get us to 7th. How long is it since we had one of our own as leading scorer in the Championshi? Take a bow Sammy Szmodics, you’re doing brilliantly.
A great chance on Saturdayto cement this great run and nearer to getting some players back from injury. A very proud Rover tonight!

On the ball we're fantastic, which makes the constant angry groaning at every misplaced pass (and even some that weren't misplaced, but looked like they might be) all the more ridiculous. It's nails on a blackboard to me listening to it, a petulant angry roar like some temper tantruming child, that it seems almost half the ground feels obliged to do now every time we give away possession. Its a louder noise than the clapping of a good pass.

But what can you do. Expecting Rovers fans to not get on the players backs is like expecting Britain's immigration level to decrease. I've been hoping for it for over 20 years and it's never happened.

Anyway, our weakness for me lies out of possession. A lot of good footballing sides aren't very good defensively. Part of it is that we get plenty of numbers forward and are vulnerable on the counter. Part of it is having to play players out of position because of our lack of squad depth (Trav just isn't a right back).

But a lot of it for me is simple intensity when defending. Sprinting to close people down, battling for 50/50s like men possessed, flinging yourself into blocks and headers. Straining every sinew in every defensive effort. We do sometimes do it, as is shown by how many leads we hold onto, but we need to do it more to make that top 6.

By the way that Dembele for them was a nightmare! We should try to sign him if the granny shagger takes them down.

I'd say that's our strongest trait. We are superb at counter-attacking. I felt we were decent at that under Mowbray, but we are a level above under Tomasson.

In possession, however, I don't think much has changed. In fact, I would argue that we might be worse.

When the onus is on us (at home) to overcome a lesser side, we still struggle. I haven't noticed much difference in us at home between Tomasson and Mowbray. In fact, we had some excessive wins, such as the 5-1 against Cardiff, under Mowbray. We are yet to see anything like that from Tomasson, but I feel we are better as a team overall.

I just felt we took our foot off the gas and thought the job was done at 3-0
I 100% agree about getting on players backs. Leonard had been on for 30secs and knobheads near me were moaning and groaning because his first touch wasn't like Messi - Needless to say..I pointed out his age and to give the lad a fucking chance for half the Riverside to hear.
On another note...Moran doesn't seem to be getting the praise (everwhere) that he should, its all about AW. Moran us some player - he was my MOM
Fair enough Sam S (nearly put SS, but thought better of it) got the MOM- 2 great goals from a player brimming over with confidence but in the first half he lost the ball or passed to Brum player all half.
Great to win at home. Leeds might be tougher next time

Dembele was the player Mowbray wanted but Rothwell didn’t go so the move was off.
I agree with you about the fans at Ewood. Wasn’t it Jimmy Armfield who described us as a jury rather than supporters?

What a relief to get a home win against a decent team.SUPER SAM atm seems to go out thinking he will score every game. The chance in the first half from a Travis cross was his easiest of the night but he does not let it bother him and he notches twice in 5 mins early in the 2nd half.Moran had a superb game another two assists he and Ferguson will be great for Ireland and Bighton.

Wasn’t Ben Brereton leading scorer for us in the championship at one point? Don’t tell drog though.
