FFS!

Far too late this. But a penalty miss and one cleared off the line.

Meanwhile we are down to 17th. Once again looking up to Preston.

Rotherham still have 4 games in hand on us.
Perhaps it's a big ask for them but if they could win 2 of those 4, we are 5 points off the drop

Well at least we won the stats! Possession (57:43), Shots, Shots on target, Corners all came down in the Rovers favour. Every stat in fact but the only one that matters! This was a better performance than the desperate showing on 'Good' Friday v Wycombe but lets be honest the match on Friday must have been our worst showing since before we were relegated. Wycombe btw who must have been so boosted by that victory triumphed today 0-3 away to relegation rivals Rotherham to climb off the bottom of the table and above Sheff Wed! Well done to them but I fear it's only a brief respite as Sheff Wed are currently 3-0 up on Cardiff at HT! Cardiff incidentally who were the championships form team not long ago. Seems 'New manager bounce' has well and truly ended down in South Wales. No worries though cos I'm sure we're just the team to restore their confidence next Saturday. :worried:
So many people's favourites for promotion early doors but currently lying out of the top six Bournemouth turned up at Ewood needing a victory to keep their stuttering promotion bid on the road with the end of the season on the near horizon. They need have had no worries, despite there not being a cigarette paper between the sides back on the opening day of the season today they simply cruised to an away victory without ever really pushing the accelerator down. Matters weren't helped as the Gyppos curse came down on us again when Mowbray's plans were thrown into disarray by yet another first half injury, this time to Joe Rothwell who had top be replaced by Holtby on 23 mins.
Credit to the Rovers players they huffed and puffed and on the face of it put the effort in, unfortunately it was a stilted, stuttering sort of effort that was rarely going to threaten the experienced Begovic in the Bournemouth goal. The entire day was encapsulated in my mind when a loose ball was deflected down to the feet of £15m man Phillip Billing who swung at it and saw in nestle in the corner of the net, Adam Armstrong with a carbon copy situation in the second half swung at the ball only to see it deflected away for a corner. Poor Arma can't buy a goal at the moment and as we all know if he doesn't score no one else will. By that time and after giving as good as they got after a somewhat slow start the Rovers were 2-0 down after a second by £13m Danjuma and the players looked down and out. Still the effort but not a shred of confidence or belief. My heart sank when TM gave in to temptation by replacing Dolan with recently -1 rated Sam Gallagher. Fair enough once again asked to play wide Dolan's threat was only fleeting as right back Smith had done his homework and refused to be drawn in to a tackle and simply stood Dolan up time and again and nullifying his threat. Elliott too was struggling to get the better of £13m man Kelly on our right side so poor old Armstrong once again saw his supply lines cut off.
10 minute from full time my lawnmower repair man turned up so I missed the last ten. Suffice to say that by then the arrival of Buckley, Downing and poor old Bennett signified the waving of the white flag in my mind. I did miss the pen and again poor old Armstrong suffered wretched luck. His last missed pen wasn't a bad effort and was struck hard and true to the GK's right and only a wonder save (plus a little movement off his line) saved the shot. Obviously he was determined to thump this one down the middle only to see Begovic's trailing leg to clear the ball. We are truly cursed!

Kaminsky.... 6 Couldn't do much with either goal and had sod all else to do as Bournemouth with two shots on goal incredibly scored with both of them.

Nyambe... 6 An Ok match as he deputised for JRC.

Lenihan.... 6 Kept Bournemouth's expensive attack down to just the two shots on target. Was unlucky to see the ball go between his legs for the 2nd goal.

Harwood-Bellis... 6 Succumbed to a John Stones moment or two with uncharacteristically poor distribution a couple of times in the first half but again 2 shots on target can't be improved very much.

Douglas ... 6 Skinned for Bournemouth's attack that led to their goal and showed a lack of pace in recovering ground. However he and TH-B rendered the expensive Brooks so ineffective that Woodgate hauled him off after 70 mins.

Trybull... 6 Showed up for the game but Tom if not quite a poor man's Evans will never be a game changer.

Johnson... 5 Where is the form and fitness of Johnson before his injury? Bradley isn't the energetic influential midfield force he was early in the season.

Rothwell.... 5 Retired hurt with what looked a knee injury on 23 mins.

Elliot... 6 Showed up for the match highlighted in the first half by a number of clever touches and searching passes as linked with Armstrong again and tried to provide the service Arma thrives on. Unfortunately he was up against a very good opponent in Kelly.

Dolan... 5 Tried hard as always but it seems he was constrained by orders to stay wide where Smith had his measure.

Armstrong... 6 Never gave up trying but what has he to do to score? It seems he has angered the Gods.

Subs

Holtby (Rothwell 23) 6 As good a replacement as anyone in the squad for Joe Rothwell but not quite with the devastating pace and control as Joe.

Gallagher (Dolan 56) 5 His usual clumsy self giving away fouls and highlighted with poor control. Fair play though he did get the penalty which IF Arma's effort hadn't been deflected could have got us a fairly deserved point. However IF my Aunt had bollocks she'd be my Uncle as they say.

Bennett ... (Nyambe 79) Didn't see the last 10.

Downing.... (Trybull 79) Ditto

Buckley... (Elliott 79) Ditto

Tony Mowbray.... 5 Never wrong a Gyppo eh? Unfortunately whilst I've Championed TM's influence in turning the club around since he came he does now appear to have exhausted his tactical skills in his attempts to turn us into a polished passing team. Worse still he is now in charge of what appears to be a demoralised squad, those players just look flat. Admired by so many for our football earlier in the season we have now turned into the soft touch of the Championship. Can Mowbray turn this around? I hope so but I fear not. At least he stood on the touchline today!

Referee Darren Bond 4 Probably impartial but Mr Bond penalised every bit of contact whether it was a foul or not. With a Ref like this it is all too easy for a team that has taken the lead to run the clock down and especially when the same Ref then allows blatant spoiling tactics without taking stern action.

I didn’t watch the game I was that fed up with the last game and went out instead! Not like me at all that.

Mowbray is way overdoing the passing bit. Too many midfield triangles and not enough taking a risk in getting to the by line and / or crossing early. Players reaching the corner of the box should swing it across without needing to look up, all that does is telegraph their intent to the defenders. Armstrong and Dolan rely on their speed, their speed of thought and anticipation NOT their height and aerial ability.
