Bit of news for the new season..........
STADIUM CLOCKS
Apologies for this late notification but I only received the following information regarding stadium clocks late this afternoon.
Late on Thursday night IFAB informed the EFL (and all other leagues) that they are now willing to relax the policy with regard to stadium clocks, score board or giant screen timers finishing at 45 and 90 minutes.
From the start of the 2023/24 Season stadium clocks can now be left running until the referee blows for the end of the first half (half time) and again at the end of the second half (full time) with the actual time, including the time added on at the end of each half being displayed.
With the revised calculation for additional time coming into effect from this season, this will of course keep spectators and indeed players informed, and is a key innovation in ensuring further transparency in regard to game management.
Some key points to note:-
- Additional time displayed by the 4th Official at the end of each half is a minimum time and play may go on longer than the minutes displayed. The fact it is a minimum time should be covered by the stadium announcement;
- Stadium clocks should be left running until the actual the Referee has blown his whistle to end the first half and then at the end of the second;
- Clocks must be reset at the beginning of the second half which should start at with 45 minutes being shown; and
- Match Officials will cover this during pre-match briefings.
I trust that you will find the above to be self-explanatory.
