Acid attack in London..perhaps if there hadn't been so many police cuts there would be more on the streets stopping this shit

Impossible to stop Abbey (unless of course they use Diane Abbott's figures for the cost of policing in which case we could have more police than citizens:joy:). All they can hope to do is find and then severely punish the culprits harder than they do now. The severity of the punishments should reflect the crime and that might be enough to move the emphasis away from acid...... but only as far as the next favourite weapon of choice for the gangsters. Best way to stop acid attacks is surely to either relax the gun and knife legislation or when they catch them export the gangsters and drug dealers to overseas less user friendly gaols. Should be much easier post brexit without all the courts in Brussels sticking their noses into our affairs whilst all the time waving that daft human rights legislation under the nose of the Home Office.

8 days I was there . I was around at Paul's and to think of the terror threat and to see a grand total of 4 police cars and one unarmed policeman is truly scary .

Not all that much of a change when viewed over the past 20 years tbh Abbey. If police numbers are to be used simply as a measure over 'effective policing' then the numbers under Bliars New Labour in 2003 were little different to today's head count. If actual policing in London is thin on the ground then ask the Chief Constable of the Met to account for the situation before you ask the Home Office.

Not sure how 2003 - 2016 extrapolates to "20 years" but from the peak in 2009-10 it's clear how the numbers have fallen dramatically under Cameron's woeful coalition and the present government so that they are now at a 30-year low according to these figures. People like to see policemen on the streets and the odd police car patrolling their neighbourhood and it's obviously not happening enough now. Time to get the cheque book out Theresa.

A typical response Benjamin. I expected little else. Would you volunteer to pay a higher rate of income tax out of your wage packet should it be deemed necessary? It would be very public spirited that's for sure and I'd actually applaud you.

Everyday a different section of society bleats on and on about needing more funding.... health service, public sector, Police / Fire / Ambulance, Teachers, Students, Prisons, those utterly ridiculous and unnecessary socialist fabrication food banks, local govt etc etc etc. Oddly enough I never hear about people actually wanting to contribute more of their own money to fund these services. Sure plenty bang on about how OTHERS should pay more tax but they rarely put themselves in the firing line. The nation is intrinsically selfish .... and that doesn't apply solely to the wealthier members of society.

Here are some wise and succinct words which you may like to ponder on .... “The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money” — Margaret Thatcher.

The trouble with Thatcher was her mum soaked her up instead of spitting her out .

Yes, I'd be happy to pay more tax if it meant better public services.

But I'd also like to see a serious effort at clamping down on tax evasion, and in particular, a red pen through the 1,000 plus ways (according to a recent report) of avoiding paying tax.

Thatcher was wrong by the way - it's isn't "other people's money", it's the government's.

Yes, they're called taxes. And if you think tax is your money, try not paying it. See how that works out.
Thats exactly what people are doing voting Conservative.

Out of interest Jim (assuming its you, pretty sure I've seen that tax catchphrase before on brfcs), how many people on here did you complain about to the mods on brfcs? How many people did you get temporary bans for? Blummin cheek casually popping up on here if you ask me.
