Very true. No one wants the ball. Sunderland has made their homework and keep’s pressuring us all the time.
To many touches and passes in our own half, oneien looks beaten with every long ball, time to go direct to Gallagher, get Morton of he’s been atrocious and drop hedges back, put markanaday on at HT.

No good centre midfielders in team right now and we Need to get some in the transfer window. That and an idea how to play the game through the midfield.

Fair play...sland up to 7th.
Was it JRC or trav who was bullied for that cross into the box in the first minute of injury time?

Tbh, not an unfair result as they wanted the points more than us. I think we had one good chance during the game and that was it. Pathetic.

I think Mowbray outwitted JDT this time. He used his knowledge of JRC Buckley et al to bully and harass us all game. I must say we’re not the great entertainers for Sky coverage are we? They deserved the points. The next 6 league games are now important for us to possibly cement a playoff place which would be progress for the club but if I’m being honest we look way off promotion material unless the manager has got some good January targets.

Craig Hignett, commentating for Radio Lancs, was critical of Rovers for the whole game.

“Lack of midfield”
“Could not string 3 passes together”
and “Silly backwards and across the back passing that get you nowhere”.

We can see that, Hignett can see that, JDT is blind to it.

Not good enough yet again. Thank goodness the Nobbers lost; it makes this evening a wee bit sweeter.

Heck! I missed out on the full pointer here as my prediction was 2-1 to Moogsland.

We don't do draws do we.

Disappointing performance, to be fair I'm starting to get why JDT gets a fair bit of stick despite us being 3rd. Most of the time we just don't look very good, camped in our own half creating zero chances.

A stat flashed up in the first half of us winning 13 out of 13 this season when scoring first. Shame that's gone now, but it does say a lot about how the heck we can be 3rd whilst rarely looking particularly strong.

So I'll say that for JDT, we're good at digging in and I thought we were going to hold on for a point. But i think we got psyched out by the crowd and the ref today. They were very niggly and did tactical fouls out of possession, went down very easily in possession, got on at the ref with the crowd's backing (who must have shouted for about 40 handballs).

And we seemed to get cowed by that, we stopped getting stuck in, and seemed happy to accept them cynically stopping our counterattacks with no bookings. Given we used to be just as soft/nice under Mowbray, its pretty worrying that even a Mowbray team can bully us.

"He who scores first wins (Rodders)" 🙄 Well whilst Sunderland's extra time goal means we still haven't drawn a Championship fixture this season at least we can put that irrelevant stat behind us now that we have scored first and lost the match. Uncanny isn't it if someone with a crystal ball had said 'this match will be decided by a winning goal in extra time, guess who will win'? Every BRFC supporter would have got the answer bang on right! Talk about long suffering supporters ... we must win the gold medal if only there were a prize awarded for the winners of that title.
As far as the match is concerned Sunderland did shade it imo if only in terms of overall desire and commitment and had learned the now widely known trick of pressing us high. Just like the first match at Ewood Sunderland quite impressed me with plenty of play and just like at Ewood their strikers were their weak link. Over two matches they have probably been the better side but their strikers don't appear to be able to hit a cows arse with a banjo. Wait a minute though! Just checked and they have actually scored 5 more than us! Suffice to say it took a pen to provide their equaliser following a mistimed tackle by John Buckley just minutes after we had taken the lead courtesy of another og from a Morton free kick. Hands up anyone who mentioned or even thought 'first goal wins' as the Rovers opener went in? Be honest!
The winner was a shocking goal to be given away by professional players with three 50:50 challenges in our penalty area within 3 seconds all won by men in red and white striped shirts. A free kick from just outside the centre circle on the right saw Ballard lay a couple of hands on JRC's back ..... and then take them off again. It proved enough, but it shouldn't have, to propel JRC forward like he'd been hit from behind by a fully loaded transit van. Whether he felt a shove and went down in an attempt to get a free kick or whether it was really enough of a shove to take him out of the challenge only JRC will know but suffice to say a professional defender needs to be much stronger in the air. Next the chance to boot the loose ball clear was spurned by Travis through a mis-control wherupon the ball squirted to JRC who was weak in the challenge and Ballard again showed more aggression and determination to square the ball for Simms to control and convert with a clever toe poke into the corner of Kaminsky's goal for the winner.
A fantastic 44000 attendance at the Stadium of Light and overall season's honours even between JDT and Tony Mowbray.

Kaminsky... 6 Could do nothing about either goal.

Rankin-Costello... 6 Continuing improvement by Joe after a dip in both form and progress after a nasty spate of injuries. Would have been a 7 but for him being largely responsible for Sunderland's winner.

Ayala... 7 A leader and a rock in our defence. Missed cutting out Sland's winner by a split second.

Hyam.... 6 The player who could do no wrong a month ago is showing signs of vulnerability.

Pickering... 6 A solid enough performance with perhaps not enough attacking play yesterday.

Morton... 6 A mixed performance, provides some silky touches with bouts of losing possession weakly.

Buckley... 6 Virtually the same comments as for Morton.

Dack... 6 Showing more of his capabilities but still not enough graft in his game or influence over the overall play.

Hedges... 6 Showed up well at times when on the ball nut I'm not sure he has forged real playing partnerships and understanding with his teammates.

BBD.... 5 Appeared to get fouled a lot but hardly ever got a free kick. The Referees Union seemingly being well aware of his frequent and 'extravagent' tumbles. Whether they are treating him fairly or not it's clear that they will give him nowt so he really should try to stay on his feet. Apart from that his goals have dried up as more and more defences are set up to force him down the wing rather than allowing him to cut in on his dangerous right foot.

Gallagher.... 4 A poor match imo from Gallagher. I'll have to give credit for Mowbray's team Sunderland in knowing how best to nullify both him and BBD.

Subs
Hirst.... (Gallagher 77) 5 Little improvement on Gally when he was sent on rather late into the fray.

Travis.... (Dack 77) 5 Needs to find his form and quick! I've no idea why but he is a shadow of the player he was under Mowbray. Is the responsibility of Captaincy contributing perhaps?

JDT... 6 I'd say he was missing the option of the energy of Dolan in that second half but it was an evenly balanced match and although he did have Markanday on the bench he didn't use him. Overall it was a decent enough away performance in front of a large crowd BUT any team good enough to get out of this division would have got something out of this match.

Ref Darren Bond... 7 I've given this chap lots of bad marks in the past but I think he handled this match pretty well.

Good summary as usual but I believe you were a bit unfair to Dack by saying he did not graft enough. He was everywhere and the team suffered when he was replaced by Travis. What has happened to our Trav? Is he suffering from being shoved to right back and lost his confidence as a result.

Trav: it is called ‘New Contract Syndrome’.
