The real Brexit thread

5th time BK...how many out of do you require for your vote to win?
Abs, I'd like to know what was the percentage of the vote that wanted to remain?
Oh, and the percentage that decided not to vote at all.
Am I right in thinking that both were less than 37%?

It seems that a minority want to usurp a democratic decision. What kind of country would that turn out to be if every time a decision wasn't liked by a minority?

The best Brexit story of the day is in the FT.

https://www.ft.com/content/9461157c-1f97-11e8-9efc-0cd3483b8b80

Predictably, the story is being ignored by the right wing BBC, Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph.

What counts in the Telegraph is "Italy offers a bloody nose to Brussels".

No wonder the majority of the 37% don't have a clue. They are being fed news from a parallel universe.

Chris
Might help if the Times newspapers had not adopted the policy of blocking internet access. I'd wager there's very few who have unblocked it. Why don't you apportion some blame to them for your constant state of angst since the referendum?

Time to put this to bed! BenJimJohn just talks a load of ill educated, heavily agenda'd complete bollocks in his efforts as a WUM!

More to the point than his constant reference to the 'the 37% thick northerners" lets look at how many political parties in the democratic world ever get more than 50% of the votes? For instance
.... 75% of eligible US citizens did NOT vote for Trump.
.... 60% of French citizens did NOT vote for Macron.
.... 67% of Germans did NOT vote for Merkel.
I could of course continue.

Truth is that BenJimJohn like most of his persuasion simply cannot accept democracy. Government by the will of the people rather than the 'elite' just does not figure in their psyche. On the plus side for him I think Mugabe and Kim Jong-un and President Xi of China were all universally popular with the electorate in their countries. I suggest he moves to one of those nations.

I don't want to do the maths again but from memory I think I calculated the remain voters at just over 32% which would leave the couldn't care less vote at 31%.

BenJimJohn hates Southerners because they’re posh Tories and now he hates Northerners because they’re thick Brexiteers . Where does BenJimJohn go from here ?

Well I've given him a clue where I'm sure that he'll feel welcome. China, Rhodesia or North Korea. However if those aren't suitable then alternatives might include Haiti, Albania and Venezuala.

The pendulum will always swing back won't it? How the US is viewing the news of the Italian election.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...3/06/italian-election/?utm_term=.79020ce856bf

All the swing to the right across Europe (and the US) imo is down to the silly German bitch (and others) putting out the welcome mat to what many perceive as hostile, alien and dangerous people whom the indigenous citizens across europe don't want to share their country with. Nor just as importantly do they want to hand down future grave and avoidable troubles to their children.
How long will it take the 'we know best' brigade to realise that human beings have a strong tribal instinct? Rightly or wrongly it's there and anyone who ignores it does so at their own peril. Brussels has pressed the suicide button on it's own future.

Truth is that no one can fight nature indefinitely and win.

Excusez moi, as our French amis would say, but I have never used the term "thick northerners".

In any case, the 37% per cent are spread across the country - so Brexit is not a north/south, political party or town/country issue.

I would question however why some north country folk vote Conservative - they might as poke themselves in the eye with a pen.

A Tory vote always has been a vote for the south.

Where are the 32% spread across then?

I realise Tory hating colours your every post and is your default position in all things but could you please explain how you managed to contradict yourself so completely in the very next sentences?

If it gets overturned democracy dies with it.
