I don't really understand in us continually being linked with Sam Gallagher. It's an admission that Brereton is a fail for one but also (and I accept that some strikers mature late) when he was here I saw very little in him to persuade me that he is worth 5m! Gallaghers just another Jon Stead imo. I can accept that we might have to sell Bradley Dack this summer but to replace him with SG certainly doesn't fill me with enthusiasm. I'd accept a swap deal with Brereton going the other way but I doubt Soton would!

Now I recognise the value of youth and I've never seen this lad play but don't we already have the 20 year old Magloire knocking on the 1st team door? Personally I believe we need and 'old sweat' in our defence. We have an honest enough workhorse in Lenihan, but two headless chickens in Nyambe and Bell and even the two current GK's who need to be playing alongside a leader and organiser. A senior player who they look and listen to for advice and encouragement during the course of a match.
I will at this point point out that I've no idea who is available mind.

We've just got rid of one 34 year old winger ffs! Shades of Whittingham and Murphy perhaps? If he's not good enough for Boro then what do we want him for?
I must say TM does show a lot of loyalty to his favourites. Anyway I think we can take it as read that we are unlikely to see Harrison Reed and to a lesser extent Jack Rodwell turn out in our colours again. Reed will be a big hit and difficult to replace in terms of quality.

Well in the words of Bill Shankly to Lou Macari when Macari phoned to say he'd chosen Man Utd over Liverpool..... "Well ye never were much bloody good son.... we only wanted you for the Reserves".

"Sheffield United are considering a move for 22-year-old forward Neal Maupay from Brentford but Burnley and Brighton are also interested (Star)"

Simple formula that Dyche prefers..... sign a top championship player and he'll be good enough for all but the top 6/7 in the Prem. We would do well to view League's 1 and 2 for up coming talent. Rem last year we had Dack (and Armstrong on loan who are easily Championship quality and if someone like Derby, Villa or WBA had come in for them with big money would no doubt have gone.

Always was a Good athlete WB and discovered his football brain at West Ham. Kevin Moran, Tony Gayle and a few others came to us past their peak and thrived. We have enough runners in midfield, maybe a bit of nous might come in handy for a season?
Got to trust ToMo's judgement I suppose.
You may well be right, I just hope his wage demands are realistic because, as you say, it really is a short term signing this one (if it happens).

If his wage demands aren't realistic I doubt we'll sign him.

I was walking in Spain and Portugal with a couple of Boro fans and they do not rate him. Both used the term ‘lazy’, he should fit in then!!

An adjective which would also describe Murphy and Whittingham perfectly.

I think we need to make a significant sale annually to balance the books for FFP don't we? Also we cannot let him run his contract down either. Plus we do have a few who can play in that position in Rothwell, Armstrong and Butterworth. They may or may not be as effective as Dack but if that allows us to get a new GK and a couple of defenders and stiffen up the dreadfully brittle defending of last season then that's just football business isn't it? Also it must be necessary to find a proper target man after the massive financial cock up of the Brererton signing. All that should do is ensure that Dack goes for significantly more money!
We'd be disappointed of course but after the angst of seeing Shearer (will he /wont he) leave this would hardly register on the Richter scale would it? Unlike Alan Shearer we can replace Dack.

I would sell at the right price (at least £15m)
I enjoy watching Dack but he did have a very barren spell after Christmas last season (not that he was alone in that!)
Shearer he ain't but he would leave with my good wishes

The problem would be that neither Rothwell, Armstrong nor Butterworth have Dack's finishing ability in the box. He has the rare ability to make most of his goals look like easy tap ins.

And that's precisely why other clubs would be willing to stump up so many millions for him. It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation isn't it?

Fact remains that we scored plenty last season but the glaring stand out stat was our goals against column with only QPR and the 3 relegated clubs letting in more! Needing to score 3 to have a hope of winning hardly has a promise of a promotion run in it has it?

I agree with Drog. If we sell Dack, the money needs to be spent on a GK and some backs.

We conceded 69 goals last season. Only the bottom 3 and QPR conceded more. That’s worrisome.
