I've wondered for many years whether or not this country would be better now if the Germans had won WW2. In the early days my father was on Home Guard duty and the general opinion was that if the Germans had launched an airborne invasion we would have lasted about as long as France. We were virtually defenceless whereas the Germans had been preparing for war for years. If that had happened the yanks wouldn't have been able to use this country as a base and would probably never have entered the war in 42. With us at his mercy Hitler rather inexplicably turned his gaze away from us and toward Russia and his army fell victim to the Russioan winter, and the rest as they say is history.
As for telly... I'm eagerly awaiting the imminent return this spring of The Last Kingdom.
If Germany had won WW2 then I doubt that I would be here to type this.
A simple story. Dad was a radio op in the Navy and joined the BBC after the War. He was then sent to a location near a small and remote country village and met my Mum. I doubt that would have happened if the Krauts had won.
I was born in 1952 and in my youth everyone I knew disliked Germans and it was not until I was in my 30s and travelled extensively abroad for years on business and met many Germans that my views eased but not totally.
The little village cenotaph with Mums family and friends family names is still there Lest We Forget.
They could and would have succeeded in taking the UK if Germany had not gone to an Eastern Front and then compound that error by also then majoring on Stalingrad. They weakened their overall front and totally missread the Russian winter and their own logistical requirements. Plus the admirable resistance of the Russian military and beseiged population.
If invaded the Brits would have resisted.........I just would not have been there to help.
When is The Last Kingdom due? I should be able to
obtain it the following day.
