People are divided about drums but I thought Boro's drummer helped the atmosphere last night. I wonder if a trumpeter or two along with a drummer and a little lyrical imagination might work to get the singers going?
The atmosphere at grounds like Boro and Derby are really helped by having singing sections, lots of banners, flags and drums. At Ewood they would probably ban you for making a noise.

If we are to have a vibrant young fan base singing their arses off it must be encouraged by the Club.

The drummer was terrible but good for us as he mostly prevented any chants starting in the away end. I’ve also never heard 5000 fans so quiet in that first half, terrible support.

4500 fans 2-3 hours away from home at an away evening match in the festive season is hardly terrible.

You can't make people sing if they don't want to. They pay their money and support the team in the way they want to. You can't make them sing if they don't want to.
I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is:

1. The atmosphere at Ewood must be the worst in the entire football league.
2. There's massive fragility in what little support the team does have, the second the game isn't going to plan it evaporates completely.
3. The negativity, moaning and abuse of our own players must again be among the worst in English football.

Getting those 3 things to something approaching the average doesn't mean we need all 10,000 to sing, it just means we need about 200 doing it constantly instead of the current 5, and we need another 4,000 prepared to join in occasionally instead of the current 500.

Our home support has been absolutely diabolical for 10 years, its a complete embarrassment to the club and the town. My dad used to tell me about Rovers fans when he was growing up in the 1960s being incredible and Ewood being an intimidating place for the opposition to go. Maybe the fact that we've lost our town (won't get into that but I'm sure you all know what I mean) has affected the passion for Rovers. But whatever it is, it needs fixing. The club has to do something.

I don't think the size of Ewood park helps the atmosphere and especially with the riverside being so far from the pitch. Ewood btw must be one of the best grounds to visit for away support with the facilities on offer. Any other ways to encourage and maximise income from away support should be explored too. My old gripe about having to stand in a seated area amongst blackburns err finest doesn't need to happen at Ewood as the top deck could be reserved 50/50 for strictly enforced away seating and family seats with the dollopers in the DE lower.

The number of fans wasn’t terrible but their support for their team in the first half was. Sorry, I thought I’d made that clear?

I've obviously not been posting much for a while and rather than starting a new thread I thought I'd put the reason on this old one.

At the Forest cup game last season I was ejected for using the Gay word twice in the direction of the Forest fans. From that point on I've been banned from Ewood pending the police investigation. It was referred to the CPS who decided to press charges and I have a court appearance tomorrow.

I don't want to start a political debate, I said it, I admitted to it and I have to face the consequences. Some, probably most, will be of the opinion that a zero tolerance is spot on, but for someone to get to 50 and not be even close to be in trouble with the police, either at the footy or away from it, it does seem a bit OTT to be criminalised without even a warning for what was a poor choice of words. As i say most will probably say good riddance, you're getting what you deserve and that's fine, but to label someone Homophobic because of poor judgement in the heat of the moment again seems a bit unfair.

A 2 year banning order will no doubt follow, some wear it as a badge of pride, I'm extremely embarrassed and saddened by it. This thread shows how I always champion being very passionate about the Rovers but in no way condoning any sort of trouble between fans - good banter a definite yes - trouble a big no.

Anyway I'll know tomorrow what the outcome will be and regardless of that I'll be back posting and joining in the conversation with my fellow Rovers fanatics on here who I think an awful lot of.

I've a couple of good mates who are gay so I understand society moving away from the old insults now, but I'm sure even they (not being the professional victim types) would say thats absurdly harsh 1SG.

Whatever happened to common sense in society and a steward just coming up and telling you not to say it again. Obviously if you then gave the steward a load of **** (which I'm sure you wouldn't) then chuck you out of that game, if you do it again then consider a ban.

But to just go straight to a court appearance and a 2 year ban is a complete joke. On Rovers part in this, don't they want any atmosphere at all? They've killed that W01 section with what seems to have been a targeted attempt to get rid of many fans there.

And as a taxpayer, thanks CPS, you've completely wasted my money just like most of the rest of the public sector seems to these days.

Code PU86149 - Use of threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment alarm or distress. Contrary to section 5(1) and 6 of the Public Order act 1986.

Again people will have their own opinions but the young lads (probably 18 or 19ish) that it was in the general direction of would have been far from alarmed or distressed, they were giving it back and having a good laugh.... apart from the fact they were with a group of girls.

Anyway it is what it is, the world seems to be falling over itself to be offended by one cause or another in the modern age. Some is very good progress and a general improvement of society, some just seems way too sensitive.

I didn’t know “Gay” was an abusive word? Just say you meant it in the old English interpretation of appearing to be a happy soul. Mind you I wonder what the other words accompanying the word gay were?

The world has gone mad
i lost a job fairly recently for "Hate speech" - which was just said as a "Joke" - everyone knew it was said in jest - yet very suddenly the atmosphere changed and there was a total over reaction
Fortunatly in my case - The Boss saw it for what it was, apologised as best he could for the over-reaction (hysteria), but explained he had no option other than to finish me.
We now live in a crazy world of Woke!!
A bit of banter like this has the potential to ruin lives in this day and age

Thank Fuck I'm 63 and at least managed a few decades of FUN

I've not put this up to garner :) any sympathy or support but lots of these causes, whilst very worthwhile in most cases seem to be so black and white, oops sorry coloured and white, oops sorry African British and white oops sorry ................. it's crazy.

If I go online and abuse a gay person or a black person or a muslim or whatever with dogs abuse then you rightly deserve to be taken to task and dealt with and hear hear I say, any right minded decent person will take another person as they find them, regardless of colour or religion or sexual orientation. But does that mean that we can't jibe at these people? I'm not exactly a looker and been called an ugly fucker loads in my life, mostly in jest, but I don't go flapping my arms around and acting like a victim. I give it and I can take it, there's absolutely NOTHING that someone can chant at me at a footy match that would offend me - in that context - nothing.

I realise not everyone is made the same, I just wish there were more like me. If the world becoming generally a kinder place is a good thing, becoming a softer and more sensitive world is most definitely not.

It wouldn't be like that if your boss had a back bone and a decent pair of bollocks. Why are the vast majority of adults in this nation running scared?

To be fair - He didnt involve the law - which some might have in this day and age and I took that as a kind gesture (and some common sense) - I bet he had to reason that out at some level
Even the people that knew and acknowledged it was a joke were pressured into changing tack

Unless you've said anything else I don't see how this will not be chucked out. One of the basic principles of democracy is freedom of speech. By definition we can't have one without the other! Gay has been in widespread use since the discovery of aids. Everyone knows that the spread of Aids is heavily weighted to the homosexual community. Recently we have. another predominantly homosexual plague developing in the form of monkey pox. It's a growing list.
Personally I hate it the theft of 'gay' as it meant happy or brightly coloured etc when I was young. The word has been bastardised by general use to replace the correct terms homosexual or lesbian. Gay isn't in any way derogatory, there are plenty more words that could be considered derogatory before that.
Meanwhile the police are now concentrating on this and ignoring shoplifting along with other crimes once deemed definitely punishable.
The nation is mad and weak leadership has made it so. C'mon Lee you're the man!

All I can say is I'm gobsmacked.
In an environment where emotion and tribalism is foremost, things are said that don't reflect the true feelings of the person saying them. They are said in the heat of the moment.
Yeah, ok, they shouldn't have been said, but......
I doubt if I'd have got out of jail with some of the things I'd said over the years and subsequently regretted.
