4-2 France. Some game this with Croatia winning on points imo. It'd be a monumental task to get it back to 4-4 but they are giving it a good go. MoM for France today has been the Ref who has given them two goals that shouldn't have stood and certainly not in a WC Final. He gave the second after consulting VAR but if he'd done the same for the first he'd have awarded then free kick the other way and booked Griezmann for diving. VAR quite obviously not the answer that we all thought it would be is it? This is a mega match and it's fair to say that it would have been better served without it.

3. Croatia (Pop just 4.5 million) were the best team on the night and pinned us back by overcoming our 3 at the back by simply using the width of the pitch. Southgate has done well but his tactical naivety showed tonight by not having a plan B. My solution would have been to take off the anonymous and ineffective Alle during the second half and replace him with Rose and pushing Young into the left side of midfield.

4. Too many of our players simply didn't turn up. Kane for one and he was closely followed by Alli and Lingard. Trippier and Henderson too were way below par. Again much credit to the opposition Manager.

Not Alli and Lingard's fault though that we were beaten, it was because Southgate played them together and for too long once it was clear to most that Croatia had our measure and were decimating us in midfield. The manager displayed a dreadful lack of tactical awareness and managerial naivety. As I've said before he needs a tactician as his number 2 if he wants to continue in the job and if we are to have any hope of progressing through major tournaments.

He replaced Delle Ali that match and imo from the bits that I have seen of him he still would be doing. Whereas Delle Ali flits in and out of matches this lad is a colossus and really can intimidate opponents and stamp his presence in and around the edge of the box. As I say I haven't seen all that much of him but what I have really impresses me.
