I think this young lad needs his own thread now.
For a while I had been hearing tales from the academy that although Scott Wharton was a great prospect, his younger brother was even better. Tonight v Blackpool I discovered this to be true but I didn’t know how good he is. I don’t think that pundit on sky was far wrong when he said we need to be worried about keeping him, never mind Big Ben. I love how JDT played his performance down in his interview saying Adam has a lot to learn but watching him tonight I just knew that he has the talent to make it if he keeps on learning.

With Adam and Travage in the middle the future looks good.

I've never seen such a dominant performance from an 18 year old midfielder making his League debut that saw I from Adam Wharton tonight. The lad was phenomenal. The sky's the limit for this boy.

Don Goodman from Sky said it was the best first performance he had witnessed. It was a joy to watch.

I'm more at the JDT level than Don Goodman, thought he was the best player on the pitch but still has areas of his game that need improving. But that's always gonna be the case with an 18 year old with only a few professional games under his belt.

He was great to watch though, his ability to glide away from players, outpacing them whilst not really seeming to full on sprint and without losing any control of the ball, reminded me of Ozil in his younger days. I think he's a very key player in the passing it out from the back style that JDT wants to play.

I waxed lyrical about Adam W in my review on the Stoke defeat. He and Moron transformed the midfield then and I even compared his passing ability to 'Sid' Cowans. He's been on the local radar for half a dozen ears now as a 'special' talent. Another product of a very well run Academy. Best hope for keeping Adam is that he and Scott and his family are keen Rovers fans and all have their feet on the ground. They will know that if an opportunity arises to play for a big club at the right end of the Prem that he will have to take it but I should like to think they will not be rushed into leaving Ewood until the right time for all concerned.

With Cat A status costing more and more as the FA tries to squeeze smaller clubs out of having one, keeping is going is a must. Problem is that he rules covering young players being poached is working against us through the FOC situation. If we could get 20m for Phillips for example that could fund the Academy for another few years.

Remarkable awareness of teammates, and especially for one so young and inexperienced at this level. The result is that it gives the impression that he's creating time and space for himself. Cloughie said when talking about Glenn Hoddle 'he doesn't seem quick but the first yard is in his head'. Early days but that fits Adams overall game on Wednesday. He's a lot to do yet but if he's like Scott he should be able to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground. Thank heaven Dad Johnny is a rovers fan and isn't a Burnley or Nob end supporter!!!:eek:

what contract is he on? I’m sure there will be bigger clubs looking at him if he continues like this.

2.5 year deal signed in May, with an option for the club to extend it to 3 years.

Be interesting to see the lay of the land next summer if he has a really good season. At that point he'll have 2 years left and for me thats the point to offer him a new 4-year contract on double/triple his current wages. It might already be too late if the big boys are sniffing around by then, but this is the type of forward planning I think Venkys can definitely improve on. We get too many situations where there's only 1 year left on a top player's contract, or they're going for a free.

The positive is that both Adam and Scott are Rovers fans as are their parents (JW Upper ST holders) and their Grandparents. I would hope that would mean something. Their parents are really lovely folk and very level headed.
