I wonder how much (%age of his transfer fee) his agent negotiated and stitched in to that?
Btw Kane didn't sign his.

I'm too lazy to figure out exactly what, but something obviously went very badly wrong on that transfer (I assume urgent cashflow problems relating to the club/Venkys or something).

Highly rated kids with decent contract lengths are expensive these days. With 2 years left on Phillips' contract, we should have been looking for far more than £2m. Some newspaper reports said we were demanding £10m from Spurs in July, so god knows what happened. But we very definitely got ripped off which is particularly galling at a time when we seem to really need the money.

Happen it was common knowledge he was signing for spurs, he could have gone for nothing last summer, happen he just signed a contract to make sure Rovers got some cash for him.Im sure we will have a sell on clause, and his mum is the latest to be hounded by Rovers key board warrior's.

We have Adam but Norwich have a guy called Rowe, scored in every game this season, four goals already, from midfield and just 20.

Until then, he needs a good, full season under his belt. It could easily go the other way, but everyone assumes that he's already "made it".
This was my worry just after the season kicked-off. It's a funny thing because I'm used to an environment where you're pretty much lampooned or called a wind-up merchant for airing something like this when everybody is in Cloud 9 about a certain subject, but it does seem as though Adam Wharton might get swallowed up if we overplay him. He is still a young lad with a lot to learn.

Young Adam might be clicking his heels on the bench for a few weeks after yesterday's win without him. A rest from action is just the ticket for any youngster breaking into the first team. Look how Pep has handled Foden, he's certainly not rushed him that's for sure.

A few games coming on for the last half hour might do him good and show him he is not indispensable. It would do him no harm.

I thought Adam Wharton played well against Coventry City. Probably his best game so far this season. Unfortunately, he hasn't been consistent enough, as I suspected would be the case. People seem to forget that age has a natural part to play in that. Some forget how young he still is and think he's worth £40m today!

A realistic plan would be to nurture him slowly and get some maturity into his game rather than throw him into the starting line-up every week and let his confidence eventually get eaten alive by the pressure bestowed upon him. If he can learn to cut out some his obligatory two or three misplaced passes that give the opponent a simple attacking opportunity each game, then I'll be happy to say that he's fully ready to be a first team regular.

Until then, we have other, more consistent players, that should start the game.

Or play him further forward - its a massive ask for him to anchor the midfield - further forward would allow him to make some defence cutting passes and when a percentage dont come off we have some cover

I’m wondering in January if Venky’s are not allowed to spend money on players due to Indian Government restrictions whether we could sell Adam to the highest bidder but ask that we keep him until the end of the season. And with the £20m fee in our pockets we could buy a couple of players in January to help our play off push? Would that work?

Yes but where are we going to find some club willing to part with £20m for our usual sub? We must be desperate or we'd keep him another season until he's bossing our midfield and destroying his opposite number every week.

His stock seems to have risen after last night and Liverpool and Newcastle have showed interest. He is definitely our next saleable asset so let’s do it sooner rather than later. I don’t like getting rid of our own but JDT needs money or the guy is walking in summer.

Isn't he contracted until 2027?
