Good
Well there he goes. £18 million up front with a further £4 million in add ons. Palace will sell for double that in two years. Yet the venkys refused £8 million for BBD a while back and he left for nothing. The venks are the worst thing to happen to our club ever.
Good luck to the lad. The move will set him up for life and he’s done the club a good turn by signing a new contract then leaving therefore maximising his sale price. Loyalty

I see a rather shy lad. Somewhat awkward in front of a camera. Might be wrong but he could struggle with leaving home for the smoke. I think he'll need careful handling by crystal palace and his family.

Yep similar thoughts too but he’s from a good family. He seems quite grounded for a young man, a rarity generally in society these days. I hope he goes on to be the player we all think he will be.

I wonder who he's taking with him down there? He'll need someone close that's for sure. Obviously Scott isn't in the equation so that leaves his other brother plus his Mum and Dad.

btw someone have a word with him and tell him to stop banging on about Palace being a "massive" club.

That's text book quote 38 - all part of the game. What's he supposed to say?

O'Riordan kept saying "massive fanbase" after he joined us. I think we do OK for a club in our location and so on, but "massive fanbase" I'm not so sure about. It's the "yeah delighted" speak.

Some honesty would bring some interest to interviews.

Q: "So, how does it feel to be a Rovers player?"
A: "I don't know, yet. I only signed five minutes ago. I don't even know where the local butcher's is."
Q: "What attracted you to the club?"
A: "It was the only deal left on the table and it's less worse here than where I was, but only because I'm getting paid more. It's just a stepping stone to a bigger move at the end of the day."
Q: "What style of player are you?"
A: "I like to hoof the ball up the pitch at all times. It's all about percentages."
Q: "Have you gelled with any of your teammates, yet?"
A: "No."

I’d imagine his girlfriend will go down to London with him. I saw them both on Deepdale shopping park a few months back and she seemed very normal and down to earth.

I don't think we'll miss this part of his game.View attachment 5455
Careful there, Husky! I mentioned it as an honest part of my player reviews in recent months but apparently it was "doing him down". Never was. Love the lad. But it was a trait of his from time to time. He'll hopefully learn but whereas it's forgiven at Championship level, it'll be magnified at Premier League level. Let's hope it doesn't swallow him whole.

I think on the ball he'll catch up reasonably quickly. It's off the ball that I find interesting.

I thought he effectively gave us 10 men when we were defending, but then I thought exactly the same about Harvey Elliott when he was on loan here. As soon as Elliott started for Liverpool in the PL he was busting a gut to defend, snapping into tackles, getting about 3 feet off the ground to challenge for headers.

Wharton needs to rapidly, vastly improve that side of his game to hold down his place at Palace. You can't just opt-out of that in the PL. On the ball, you'd hope the smarter runs from quicker, better players will feed into his passing game.

Wharton starts for Crystal Palace. Really hope he can shine. Really worried this might be too much, too soon, for him.

Subbed in the 65th minute but still got bbc mom against the dingles. He should be well pleased with his contribution to the dingles demise.
Yes Palace got a bargain there. I can’t help but think we were ripped off. The root cause of his cheap exit is the venkys who were unable to get money into the club
Venkys out.

Agree but he still signed a longer contract when it was obvious he was moving on and up
Without that - he might have gone for a lot less

A move was always going to happen - Venkys or not

Anyone know if there is a sell on clause?
