I do understand JDT's dilemma with Brereton, good strikers are generally the most expensive thing in football and we don't have any money. 2 cracking signings in Graham and Armstrong did the job for 5.5 seasons and Brereton's road to Damascus moment with Chile somehow created us another one for a while.
But BBD calling it a day at Christmas in the last 2 seasons has been disastrous for our promotion push both times. Its incredibly difficult to get promoted without a prolific striker. Only Sheff Utd out of the top 6 don't have a striker who's scored 17 or more league goals this season.
And no matter how much running around Dolan and Smodics do, how many neat touches Hedges has, or how much hold-up play Gallagher does, they're not gonna score us goals. And without wanting to be harsh, almost certainly neither is Harry Leonard who seems to be getting the Joe Nuttall treatment of fans thinking scoring in the casual league of the under-23s is an indication of something. Get him out on loan playing proper football for a season in League 1 and lets have a look then.
So its almost as if JDT has nothing to lose sticking Brereton on and hoping he can be bothered. But I agree the time has definitely come where it isn't worth it now, given his lack of effort is enraging the fans and probably lowering the morale of the rest of the team.
