Ben Brereton?

Wow, such bitterness. You need to let it go.
Not sure what he needs to let go. Brereton's form in the last six months for Rovers was... Brereton's form before he became Brereton Diaz. A good player for us in the end, but La Liga level, or European competition level? Not a chance. Not consistent enough for that, even if he showed periods of brilliance. Only the consistently good can make it to those sorts of levels, and Brereton was never that.

I don't wish him ill or anything, but calling it as I see it.

Drog knows exactly what I’m referring to but thanks for the input.

Colour it how you like ODB but it must be clear to all now that Brereton was a poor investment. 6m plus wages for a club like ours was ridiculous for a player who only played any bit like for a season and a half. In any terms that was a bad spend. Question for you.... on reflection if you could go back to 2018 and the decision was yours would you still sign him?
Check out Szmodics / Sigurdsson / Dack / Armstrong / Graham for value for money signings. I know BBD didn't set his fee when we bought him but he certainly set his stall out to skin us when he left!

"Then you go and spoil it all by saying something stupid" :p
I agree, overall he was a terrible gamble that failed until he had a purple patch (I remember talking to Forest fans when we bought him - and they couldnt believe what we had paid for him - they thought it was great!)
He didnt set out to skin us, he was perhaps guilty of protecting his interests by holding back a few % in his last season (and IMO shouldnt have been in the starting line up)
I would say he isnt the brightest, but he comes across as dead genuine - I hope he can get his confidence up - because IMO that is his achilles heel - self belief!

If you check back you will discover that Ben was about third choice as a signing! Don’t look to me for defending any decisions made by our stupid owners though. They could have sold him for millions twelve months before he did leave so I would suggest you direct your ire at them.

He got a big wedge when he left sure, but I don’t think that was his plan, I suspect his agent did that.

Yes I’d sign him again, those two goals against Arsenal showed he had the potential. The fact that Ben became a success with us and a fans favourite is where I suspect your irrational hatred for him originates. It’s not a bad thing to admit you are wrong you know?

Would there be any takers considering a fee and his wage? Would take Premier League money to prise him away.
Depends what kind of loan-deal it would be. Some clubs pay the whole wage while other might pay part of the wages. However, lets see what happens with him as its early stages in his Spanish career but it is not looking promising so far.

A, If his agent was hawking him around as being out of contract at the end of the season it doesn't matter how many millions we were offered if he refused to go.

B. So I and most of the Ewood faithful, Steve w's Forest supporting chums and a big chunk of Catalonia are all wrong! Meanwhile ODB is right. :D

I knew you’d eventually come round to the fact.

86th minute sub appearance this weekend. There must be a number of British managers and scouts who are mighty relieved that they didn't sign him.

I think he's shot himself in the foot by downing tools around Christmas in his last 2 seasons with us.

2021/22 - pre-New Year 20 goals in 23 starts, post-New Year 2 goals in 11 starts.
2022/23 - pre New Year 9 goals in 18 starts, post-New Year 4 goals in 14 starts.

I appreciate 2021/22 was more impressive, but if you combine his pre-Christmas performance for his last 2 seasons here, that's 29 goals in 41 starts.

The Championship is a decent level, so I just don't think its possible for a player to produce that, in 2 different seasons, if they're not good. But, as a few players have found out over the years, dropping your level as a professional and expecting to then get it back isn't like starting a car. I think his agent has screwed him if he's been advising him not to get injured after Christmas the last 2 seasons. Play at 100% every game, keep banging them in, and join your new club with a running start, is what I'd have said.
