Steve Bruce admits NUFC are lucky to still be in the cup and that the best team lost. This snipped from the Newcastle Chronicle backs his opinion.

"Newcastle United made 369 passes to Blackburn's 639, a total difference of 270. Just a reminder, Newcastle were at home and the Premier League side. It's another sign of the dominance of the away side, and throws the question of whether United are going to revert to the old way of soaking up the pressure and hitting on the counter. They got away with it tonight but only thanks to Blackburn's failure to net one of the several chances they created.

United afforded Blackburn's midfielder far too much time - the trio of Holtby, Travis and Rothwell put together 226 passes compared to just the 128 of United's starting four. simply not good enough.

4 - the number of clearances made by Ciaran Clark and Emil Krafth
Despite the negatives, there was some praise for Ciaran Clark and Emil Krafth who partnered in the centre of defence. Krath has never looked overly comfortable in this role, and while Blackburn battered the defence, the pair stood tall.
Both made four clearances a piece, while Clark made two interceptions - one crucial one early in the second half when Ben Brereton was yards from goal.
It was a welcome return to action for Clark who hadn't played since February."

It seems NUFC's best players were the Centre halves until one factors in the chap they were up against! :( Our overall play desperately deserves a cutting edge. I don't know where we'll find one of those but tbqh that's not my job is it? One thing I do know is that BB on his own is screwing over my chances in the Predictions league!

Mags still jammy! Another poor performance and only overcoming Newport County on sudden death penalties after a very late equalizer by Shelvey.

Good news is that Burnley got a thumping at home to Man City. No shame in that though is there?

On a comical note as WHU were getting a thumping by Everton their coach, the terminally thick Stuart Pearce was caught on the phone covering his mouth from the cameras..... even though he was wearing a mask! Just as an aside how does he keep getting work at top clubs?

Round 1 and it is a tough tie v Morecambe at home w/c 9th August.

I wonder how much Rovers will charge. It should be ยฃ5 maximumโ€ฆ..Rovers pay us ยฃ5 to attend ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thatโ€™s a shame, I would have liked a trip to Morecambe rather than play at Ewood. Iโ€™m pretty sure they have a few of our castoffs, could be an interesting tie this.

It was freezing.
I counted the fans in one end, 465.
We transferred to the stand at half time.
All good fun, collected programs from each team, watched them play then visited the grounds. I didn't visit all the grounds but watched Rovers on 80 ish

Hartlepool were the last of the 92 clubs I watched. Had to go to Oldham on an awful snowy day
Hardly an infrequent occasion at Boundary Park is it?
