Comings & Goings 2018/19 Season

"Blackburn Rovers have signed young Walsall striker Mitch Candlin, 18, on loan until January, with an option to make the move permanent then."

Another one from the England U18 squad. Mowbray's certainly favouring youth and no wonder after his recent experiences with Whittingham and Caddis. Anyone know anything about this lad?
Nothing at all, but 18 seems a bit young to be leading the line. Would be surprised if he's expected straight in to Danny Graham's boots.

What's in it for Walsall to release on loan I wonder, other than the promise of a transfer fee if all goes well? Presumably they would rather keep him. What if he flops, or gets injured between now and January? Walsall lose four months service from a promising young striker, the transfer fee, and we just get his wages off the books. Seems a bit of an imbalance between the parties.

According to The Sun, WBA bid £15m for Dack.
If that’s correct, we’ll done for knocking them back.
Also - what is the release clause set at?

£11mil plus add ons. It's not quite the same is it? but I'm still pleased that the Venkys turned it down. He will go eventually I suppose but hopefully not this season and for a lot more than that. His value keeps increasing and the management know that. however if he gets us into the Prem he's worth a lot more than that to Rovers.

I wonder if we will see Chapman back at ewood in Jan. Looks like we just missed out, would have been a boost to have him here. A fans favourate for sure.

On the failure to add to his squad on the final day of the loan window, Mowbray added: “I was pretty relaxed about everything really.

“I don’t want to talk about specifics but there was one player we were trying to add who the fans know about.

“It was a frustrating day for him really. They didn’t get the incomings they wanted and it’s a shame as it was a done deal pretty much and yet it didn’t happen because they probably got frustrated.”

Looks like he tried to get him and it was pretty much sorted but their replacement came too late. Sounds promising for January then so long as nobody else get's their oar in.

Didn’t Chapman get injured again recently?

Is he worth the risk?
He had a shoulder injury recently but has played since then. Damien Duff had similar hamstring trouble to Chapman in his early days. Do you think he was worth the risk?

He's got the talent, the first touch, 5 yard burst and the change of direction in spades that's for for sure. Probably the most exciting wing prospect since Duff imo. Whether he can make it to the next level is up to him ... and his hammy's.
Another England youth player which TM appears to well and truly have on his radar.
From wiki......... Chapman has represented England at U18 level. He was selected for the England under-20 team in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, but was an unused substitute in the tournament that England won.[15][16]

I rem Dean Saunders being the making of Duff. I watched DD as a kid before he made the 1st team, his talent was prodigious and wing play was brilliant. I couldn't wait to see him getting to the by-line crossing the ball for Shearer.... that never happened though:( . Hodgson massively overplayed Duff I recall and that might well have contributed to his injury record.
Duff in the early days preferred to run toward the by-line and cross rather than toward the goal and take a shot. On many occasions he made the wrong choice by electing to cross rather than shoot. I rem commenting to my mate in those early days that if Duff ever learned how to score he wouldn't be at Ewood for very long. Along came Dean Saunders as striker coach, Duff suddenly started taking pot shots (rather nervously to begin with) and the rest is 17 million pounds worth of history. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/5901791.Saunders_handed_new_role/?ref=arc

btw but rumours were that Fergy sacked a Man Utd scout in the RoI for missing out on him. How much truth is in that I've no idea.

That’s different. Duff was already our player, and a top-class one at that. Everyone could see the kid was destined for stardom. Chapman’s good but is he in the same league?
It's not different. There are a lot of similarities and well worth the risk IMO.
