Dry January

Anyone else doing it?

I started a couple of nights ago with the aim of 5 weeks on the wagon. Bit difficult when watching the sh!te that Rovers dish up these days.

The pubs will not miss out, they will be shut for months yet, if of course there are any left to open up again.

No chance.... at my age I haven't that many januaries left to waste on such nonsense. Muslims have dry everything and they don't live any longer do they?

I'll be having a "cutting down sharpish" January but it will be nowhere near dry.
Besides, with the lack of Christmas parties and social gatherings, I reckon this December has been one of my driest (but still rather damp!)

Common sense approach WB. All things in moderation.

My aim with Dry January is both simple and achievable.

I want to get back to my Adonis like body.

Simples. 🤩

I did six weeks off between October and November easily and lost ten pounds. I’m also considering January as well but to be honest I don’t drink that much anymore to cause any worries. I think I’ve reached an age where the feeling bad the next day outweighs the pleasure at the time!

It’s very rare I drink in any way other than in moderation these days . Long gone are the days of getting gassed by drinking copious amounts .

So for me it won’t be a dry January it’ll just be a normal drinking month , a few IPAs here and few Benes there . Oh and the odd glass or two of red wine .

Lady who lived next door was typical English middle class. Always with a blue rinse and with never a hair out of place, smoked almost continuously through a black cigarette holder. Every day at 11pm on the dot she had a large Gin and Tonic as a livener and in the evenings a number of single malts. She's long gone of course, must have died about 30 years ago now..... aged 93!

TBH I have been completely dry for over 5 years and a big factor in my still being around to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Up in the air on whether or not its worth it but not actually craving for or missing alcohol has made it an easy enough time.

Well done ARA.
That's something I'd find hard to do, but then again if circumstances arise, craving becomes less of a problem.
Got to admit, I like my beer and wine

Ditto dave. This pandemic has probably screwed a lot of people over regarding the psychology of drinking. I've always gone out regularly (4/5 nights a week to the local for a pint or two and rarely drank at home, but now the locals are out of commision I'm partaking in front of the telly on these dark winter nights and I'm not at all certain that is a good thing to do.
We do have a 7 O'clock rule which I believe is important to maintain. Also as I was once informed alcohol is the first thing to burn off with physical activity it's wise to find something physical to do every day.

it'll have to be a 7 o'clock in the morning rule today 🥴
Not that I've had any yet but I certainly won't last another eight hours on NYE

Easy peasy WB. I've an old tree to saw up and stack, a dog to walk and a zoom at 7 so it'll fit in nicely.

There a NY party started just outside my front door. The wife , her family and any local who wants to drop in. Not paid for by me TFFS!!

They are half pissed already at 6.30 pm - not the wife though, shes a non drinker which has helped me. Her Sister drinks for a country!

Still plenty of free food to come.

Trouble is they like letting ''bangers'' off, but these sound like small bombs. Twats.
