So not worth watching my recorded highlights then?
Always worth that whatever the result imo.
"Spain pressed us and we didn't keep the ball well enough," he said. "I have to give the players credit. We could have folded and disappeared. In the last 25 minutes we came into the game and could have got a draw.
"We are under no illusion that Spain were the better team for long periods. We are still at the early stages of what we want to do.
"We are still finding our feet in playing out from the back. We can go back to an old style but we will never be a top team. Or we can stick with it and accept it won't always work. Gareth Southgate.
OR
"We can perhaps see whats going wrong and tinker with the system and the squad." Drog
3 defeats on the spin now is being talked about in the press, but it's no real disgrace given the level of the opposition. However Southgate reminds me of the old saying
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". Einstein.
The way I see it his system has been sussed, the element of surprise that it came with doesn't work anymore. Worse still he's sticking with effectively the same players (two or three would struggle to even get in my squad) and he appears to have no plan B. We come out of the blocks quickly and we've gone ahead most matches (the two v Belgium excepted). Problem then is Southgate's system and personnel fail when asked to defend a lead. I said after the world cup that we were dumped out because he was tactically naive, the starting line up was free scoring but when you go 1 up in the World Cup it forces the other team to come out of their traditionally cautious approach, get on the front foot and attack us. When that happens at least two of the forwards are as much use as chocolate teapots and the midfield becomes swamped and then we look weak, imbalanced and disjointed. Too many of Southgates chosen X1 simply don't have a clue how to defend and certainly not in that system. Worse still is that Southgate does not know how to change things.
Now for the surreal bit...........I stand by my somewhat contentious opinion back in summer that unlikely as it might have been we could have won the World Cup by instead of subbing players actually sub the manager. Southgate first 45 to open up a lead with Allardyce coming on for him at HT to keep us there.
