So why all the fuss when as it turned out everyone in our group ended up in Pot 1?

btw I know Germany's having a bad time and figuring in Pot 2 but I still don't want them in our group.

Exactly. What was all that qualifying about if everybody goes into the same group? I thought that the winners of each group were going to play off. All that celebration seems rather pointless now, or am I missing something?
