Reading about Barcelona's finances is staggering. They are €1bn in debt. They have sold future revenue to companies for instant income to stave off financial implosion. Talk about desperation! Those liabilities are going to hurt them down the line.
Additionally, La Liga lowered Barcelona's salary limit from €648m to €270 for this season, but their wage bill stood at €492m. La Liga will put Barcelona under a transfer embargo, including for free transfers and loans, if they do not fill this €130m hole in their accounts. I have no idea how they will fill it. A big loan?
I often find it hard to believe when I see football players declaring bankruptcy. It's a similar feeling here, with one of the most successful and renowned football clubs in the world. How can Barcelona have allowed themselves to get into this ludicrous situation? I suppose income and expenditure is all relative, but their situation seems unrecoverable.
