Major mistakes have been made here, all on the Tory watch with May as Home Sec. People are dead, someone needs to answer to this.
Throw the book at whoever let him in and anyone else who was responsible. For one he was on a suspect list and for 2 what skills / abilities was he bringing here? All these people who say immigrants bring so much to the UK need to answer that. Except for here and in Europe I doubt this bugger would have got into many countries around the developed world would he?

You're absolutely right, someone does need to answer for it and that entity is Daesh. We're living in unprecedented times now.Not since WWII have we seen such attacks on UK and European soil (And yes I'm including the troubles o'er the water). Now is not the time for a witch hunt, we need to deal with the root cause, demonising individuals is not the answer.
I disagree ottoman. It's just the same as with the grooming gangs. The people in authority who had proof of what was going on and turned a blind eye should lose their jobs and their pensions. It would reverberate across the public sector and sharpen all the ones who think they are untouchables up no end.

The government of the day are responsible for keeping the country safe. The attacks and major failings are under the Tory watch, May failed as Home Secretary and wont want to continue to fail as PM, expect heads to roll.
Agreed but no matter how much she failed can you imagine Diane Abbott in charge?

I agree Chor , someone needs to answer for the mistakes that led to these atrocities . I'd be looking at the highly renummerated civil servants of the Border Agency and Security Services first . Those with the high salaries , gold plated pensions , long holidays and the rest of the benefits , that most of us can only dream of . Is there any accountability in these sorts of public sector bodies ? Does anyone ever get dismissed ? Whenever there's a " cock - up " it always gets blamed on the cuts or austerity . I think that's just passing the buck. There's been some gross negligence here and in any disciplinary procedure that's summary dismissal without notice or pay in lieu of notice. Heads should roll.

Piers was praising May early in her premiership (and he makes a critical comment about her period as home secretary) so its somewhat hypocritical where she's concerned. As for the rest totally agree with what he's saying.

So much of what the Tories have done in the past 7 years starts with what your own personal attitude to the national debt is. My attitude is its worryingly large and scarily difficult to control.

So I can understand why the Tories have cut police numbers, but I agree they need to be increased in light of recent events. However I also think we can't afford the level required to fully keep a lid on Islamic extremism, especially when the problem is growing so that funding level will have to grow with it.

Other tools must also be employed and stuff like limiting the human rights act, increasing allowed time held without trial etc. gets my support.

I maintain as ever that the full and unconditional support and co-operation of the UK Muslim community as a whole would do more to solve this problem than spending the entire UK GDP on it. But the authorities have never had that level of co-operation (speculating on why not being the perennial elephant in the room). So I think its time to push a bit harder in demanding that co-operation and being a little less sensitive in causing offence.

I presume given the constant mention of Police numbers by opposing politicians that there were lots more Police in 7/7/05 ? Didn't help much did it? As I keep banging on prevention is much better than cure.

You only need to look at Blackburn to see an example of how Islamic extremism has been enboldened. The massive increase in covered women , teenage girls & pre- pubescent girls in the last few years is deeply worrying , both for the women & girls themselves and society in general. The creation of Islamic single sex schools through the free school route has only made things worse . I've come to the conclusion that we have to make education secular , which is a shame because there are lots of enlightened RC and C of E schools , but somehow we need to stop extremist Islamic practices becoming the norm .
