If ever you've got a spare 20 mins and want to savour a nice brew, (tea or otherwise), this is for you:

Jim Hall master guitarist
Great tune Dave! Its very soothing and I guess a bit dreamy, hence the blue cover. Tonight's counter on this will be a Nordic noir piano song. A Swedish pianist called Jan Johansson who died way too young but created a master piece called Jazz på Svenska (Jazz on Swedish). He went around Sweden and collected stories and folk musical pieces which he later made his own versions of.

That was a great listen Robin.
I love the crisp clear tone of the piano, with the bass and a hint of brushes on the drum (though I might be mistaken on that)
It reminded me of John Lewis, pianist with the Modern Jazz Quartet.
Will have to drop that onto my spotify jazz tracks

edit, seems I was mistaken about the drums. My hearing must be on the way out!
Recorded in 1964.

Tonight's listening (or rather the whole week for me at least) is Nick Drake. I know someone posted a song earlier but this guy certainly deserves more credit for his songwriting. He died way too you young and maybe you can draw some parallels to Syd Barrett (mental illness) even though the later achieved more success in his short time with Pink Floyd. Five Leafs left is my favorite album with Nick and i think its top class from the first track to the last track on the album. I recently read a good biography about him written about a Danish guy which i recommend to you all and its called Pink Moon. A short book but very interesting.

Here's another early one, around ww2.
The Quintette du hot club de France with Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt

Classic Dave. I've bee lucky enough to attend a few "Gypsy Jazz" festivals (not sure the term is currently acceptable) locally with musicians travelling from France, Belgium and Serbia, and hope to attend more, now we seem to have the worst of the pandemic behind us.

That would have been me Robin. Drake's textured and soulful style seems to go perfectly with a take home pint or two. Drake's laconic, but atmospheric music, reminds me of John Martyn, who was making his name during the same era. Also goes great guns with a few pints in front of a roaring fire. I might be wrong, but Martyn seems to have inspired Denmark's Choir of Young Believers:

Sipping a Bene and Brandy whilst listening to ‘ Lost in Lost World ‘ from the album Seventh Sojourn by the Moody Blues . Taking me right back to the early 1970s , an album I played over and over again . Almost as often as Jimmy Ruffin’s Greatest Hits 😀

OOOPs..... posted this on the wrong thread, this should be on the TV thread:rolleyes:

Just finished watching the BBC's 'Vigil' about rum goings on on a Vanguard nuclear sub which is one of a number UK vessels which carry nuclear arms. Good storyline although I'm sure a number of ex submariners would see flaws in the script. However two things of note which betrayed the fact that this series was commissioned by the BBC.

1. The Captain of Vigil was black. Now the chap played the role very well but given there are only 4 of these subs (apparently) I'd happily wager that no other serving Captain is a black person.
and
2. Most odd that the policewoman played by Suranne Jones was in a lesbian relationship with another Policewoman. Now try as I might I can think of no obvious reason for this issue to contribute a single thing to the storyline.

Saying it was from the creators of the marvellous Line of Duty I thought Vigil was a disappointment.

In addition, the white female Scottish cop had a black work partner.
At navy HQ, the two most prominent officers were a white bloke and a black woman.
The coxswain on the sub was a white bloke and he was having an affair with, blow me down, a black woman.

So would I have! 4 months at sea with over 100 men and even Angela Raynor and Diane Abbot would start to look attractive,

Angela Raynor isn't bad. It wouldn't be too hard to fancy her.
