Surely we need a BETTER academy so to speak and these players coming in to the first team and then sold on...maybe in theory.

The trouble is we are producing players of the quality of the likes of Rochdale whilst spending some 3M, compared to their 250K. Matters must improve at Brockhall, I have no clue how the academy costs so much given we own all our facilities and are paying our scholars pennies. Can't help but wonder if the academy is a route for cash removal from the club for our various owners benefit. If the demise happens straight away then I do not believe promotion is on the cards as they were happy to fund it at champ level and if only anticipating one season at league one level, then it would surely be maintained?
Vinjay sorry mate not up for long drawn out debates anymore. Nothing personal but have learnt my lesson from the last place as immersion into MB's can become very derogatory. Plus I was on my phone and responding to a post like that is never gonna happen with that method of typing.
As I said earlier imo Academies are unsuited to clubs in the lower leagues. Too expensive as we can no longer attract the most talented kids. Best bet to offer a solidly run club with great facilities to revitalise the career of true talents who have fallen by the wayside or those that need further development (Del e Ali at Orient, Becks at PNE, Abraham at Cardiff etc) mixed with a few old heads e.g. The Grahams and Mulgrews.
Too late now but my belief back in the mid 90's was that Shearer and Hendry should have been put fwd as 'mentors' to persuade the best kids to sign for BRFC. A big brother type influence who would have regular contact with their charges and of course benefit financially from the progression of their career.
Imagine if you were an English parent visiting the then hugely impressive Brockhall facility with your son and meeting KMD and Shearer who wanted you to sign on the dotted line with a personal promise to keep a close eye on your son and his development? Same with Scottish kids and KMD and Scottish Captain Hendry promising the same? I think the only parent who would have been likely to refuse that would have been one like Gazza's bloody stupid Dad!

Duff certainly met Kenny so he obviously did something as Director of Football lol. I guess Shearer and Hendry wouldn't have done any harm additionally but if you're not persuaded by Dalglish then....

Duff was special even back then as he tore up the Irish youth leagues and was destined to make it. We were not alone in pursuing him and all stops needed to be pulled out to ensure he signed. Managers meeting young players happens even today, a lad I know went on trial at Fulham a few years ago and the gaffer came down to say hi as they wanted him to sign. He didn't but was rather flattered by the meeting as he commented on it when he returned.

What's he actually done to be referred to as a pillock? He's had some abuse on twitter over this someone told him to "stay away paki" though other fans told the clown off.
His name comes up all the time whenever someone is fired and nothing ever happens. He was at Brockhall once as far as I know on a coaching development programme and that's about it. There's probably young coaches up at Brockhall all the time getting tours or doing courses. They let that cretin Kevin Davies do a course there something he probably didn't appreciate in the slightest. David Lowe says they obviously had fond memories of the club? Jansen obviously but sure as hell not Davies who's commented on how unhappy he was here. Blamed everybody but himself.
