Didn't watch it and didn't listen to it ( watching the cricket ) . First match so mustn't be too knee jerk , but this is depressingly familiar.

Defensively we are so fragile . When are we going prioritise defending and recruit some proper defenders ? Correct me if I'm wrong , but wasn't Mulgrew bought to play in midfield. ( and should be orchestrating from centre mid ) & Lenihan started there? From what I've seen Nyambe just looks pedestrian and Williams is probably the slowest full back to grace a Rovers shirt ( and equals Spurr as the worst ) in a long time

Until we stop letting goals in the slide will continue . Please TM give me a bunch of 0-0s and 1-0s

Respect to the 1500 who travelled

Bright Spots ? South Africa 147 - 6 , Jimmy Anderson 4-33

Wouldn't have flattered Southend at all if they had scored 6. I saw nothing of note from the newbies to even mention except that Samuel was the worst of the lot! I hardly saw graham touch the ball and ybh he never even appeared to be trying to. The ch had him in his arse pocket the whole match.
So bad that the Southend crowd were singing 'going down' to us in the 1st half!
Mom mulgrew.

Bit early to say I hate being right but let's say I'm not surprised. Phil Brown is one of the managers I said I'd have preferred instead of Mowbray this season and looking at the match stats they were far better. Next league match is against another I mentioned in Ferguson, let's hope we get our act together.

Brilliant travelling support if that 1,500 figure is correct.

Not the best start and it sounds like Samuel and Dack were gash. Lets hope we pick up points in the next match.

Whatever Mowbray's faults may be at least he's no wifebeater. Wonder if that was a case of like son like father? Wouldn't surprise me.

I'm guessing Mowbray will go with 2 up front again next week considering its at Ewood. Might have been better packing the midfield today rather then starting with a front 2 who haven't had much time to develop any understanding yet.

I have now settled down after returning from Southend about 1/2 hour ago.

That was an abject performance from Rovers. The only player with any credit was Raya who thankfully kept the score down to 2 when it should have been 4 or 5.

The Southend goalie made only one save!!

We punted it up to Graham about 60 times, it came back about 60 times, you would have guessed after 6 times we might change our tactic, I did not see Graham jump once. We were out muscled, gave away possession too many times and they closed us down immediately.

Same old Rovers. We must learn from today.

The best of today was the Marlow micro-brewery bar in Southend.

Great ale, great staff, made very welcome. Their profits were up today :D:D:D

Agree with all this but I would say same new rovers, the old rovers were great.

He's a stand up guy which is both the reason I hate to say it and the reason people will disagree with me but someone tell me the statistical difference between Mowbray and Coyle.

There isn't one. Both on the scrap heap after both failed as managers for the last 5 years. Give me an unfashionable manager with a proven track record in this league any day. Not a guy who jumped having rock-bottomed Coventry.

No structure, no shape, no passion, no leadership on the field.

Fans keep saying this is a marathon not a sprint but in L1 every single game is a sprint.

We need a hard man in midfield, an Andy Todd or Kevin Moran type of player. Booting it up to 'old lead shoes' Graham does not work.

This is a wake up for Mowbray and the fans.

Drog: did you try any jellied eels and liquor?

What a huge disappointment. I hardly dared come on here after that. I really thought we were going to have a good season after the build up but all the reports say the same old crap is being served up. I'll judge for myself next week against Doncaster. The mid week cup match is pretty meaningless.

Only one thing to say. Neither Todd nor Moran were midfielders. It's bad enough having to play midfielders as centre halves but to compound it by playing centre halves as midfielders.

I take your point though that we need a midfield enforcer but one with experience and know how to make an impact in this division. People hoped that Whitingham would provide this.

Whitingham looked like you could puff him off the ball. He was a pansy yesterday.

As others have said punting to Graham is a complete waste of time.
Our midfield were lacklustre to say the least and there was little cover for the full backs particularly Nyambe. At the end of last season Bennett helped out - but not yesterday.
They played like what they are - a 3rd division team. There was no movement or extra effort from anyone except Mulgrew who looked like a man playing for a move.

**by extra effort I mean giving 100%

How does a player "play like a man looking for a move"?
If we are going to play long ball we need to sign a target man quick. Maybe it is a season too far for Graham.
I'm still not sure about Nyambe. As has been observed on BRFCS teams appear to target him with some success. I know he's only young but I'm not sure we can let him learn in the first team. He's costing us goals. I don't think Kightly scores a lot of goals but he did yesterday against Nyambe.
It hurts even more when a Dingle scores against you.

Just came to that opinion as he seemed to be the only player really trying (Raya also seemed committed) what I meant with the mulgrew comment was he played like he was being watched. (Which he probably was)
A bit like Tugey played at contract renewal time!

I rather thought that Jason Lowe would excel in that role in this division but that ship has sailed. Sometimes you don't realise a player's worth till he's gone.
