Playing devils advocate for a moment, maybe the writers thought it would be amusing to put on a platform for ridicule the person responsible for creating a lot of travel problems recently?
I'd try to stay apolitical! It's not the BBC's job to set people up. Regardless of how people feel about the Likes of Lynch he shouldn't be part of a comedy panel show whilst trying to hold the country hostage in relation to transport.

Indeed so ODB but I am left to question his motives in agreeing to go on? Did he not foresee that he would be the fall guy for lots of jokes and digs?
Maybe he did but didn’t care? Any publicity is good publicity after all.

Good performance by Liz Truss this morning on the Laura Kuenssburg prog. LK was intent on going for the jugular on the main issues in the news but Truss handled her with ease. Kuenssburg is no Andrew Marr that's for sure and she is a million miles behind Andrew Neill but that was a performance far removed from the irrelevant bluff and bluster of BoJo's pathetic performances.

Michael Gove for his part showed why post brexit he should have been PM instead of Johnson.

No other Tory would have taken the red wall other than Boris. The whole party will be regretting getting rid of him should the unthinkable happen and the populace stick the clowns in charge come the next election.

Personally I am of the opinion that the red wall and the landslide tory victory was more down to Corbyn than Johnson.

The BBC should have been defunded 10-20 years ago. Its been blindingly obvious they're biased to the left for ages. Just like many areas of society now, their workforce is dominated by brainwashed zealots fresh out of our left-wing universities.

They've an obligation to be 100% politically neutral, or they shouldn't get a penny of public money. So they've let Lineker get away with about 1,000 times as much as he should have been able to over the years, and it's brought us to this.

Even now the punishment is pathetic: apologise and you can come back. It should be him and all his pathetic little followers (depressing to see Shearer being one of them) permanently banned from working for the BBC. Although really like I said, the ideal outcome for me would be disband the BBC entirely.

Never mind Linekar's pampered scophantic chums, it seems whatsapp represents what the great British public are thinking.
If I was the DG of the BBC I'd be wanting rid of them all for breaking their contracts in one way or another. There will be plenty of ready made replacements up and down the country who will do the show for far less and be grateful for the work.

Taking out the "politics" of the situation -

Who actually watches MOTD for the host and punditry? There should be more action and less waffle.

On the few occasions I watch MOTD I actually watch at least 30 mins after the "live" show so I can actually fast forward through all the crap spouted by Lineker, Murphy, Shearer et al and just see the actual highlights.

Seems even the good folk of Leicester want him sacked......

From the Leicester Mercury......
A majority of Leicester Mercury readers believe Gary Lineker should be sacked from the BBC for his comments on the Home Office's immigration plans earlier this week. In a poll of 713 readers asking whether the Match of the Day star should be sacked for his comments, 561 of them agreed, while 152 believed that Lineker should keep his job.
Lineker made his comments on the proposed new Illegal Migration Bill put forward this week, which will attempt to crack down on people who illegally make their way across the Channel particularly on small boats. Gary shared his disdain of the new bill, which would see asylum seekers entering the UK via small boats detained without bail or judicial review for the first 28 days, before being deported to their home country or third party country such as Rwanda.
