Pikey blackmailers. Thieves an vagabonds. Proper gypsies hate them. In fact if they were proper gyppos they'd be at Appleby this week. They'll go when they are paid enough. Same thing happened to my mate's business and he paid em off. Alternate option I believe is to give a few quid (used notes) to some gangsters from away off to shift them.
That could be an option to deal with a number of issues!

Trust me, the Police hate them as much as we do but they have no powers. The legislation is tangled up with squatters rights etc. Best you can do is get a court order which gives them seven days to shift though they could stay on. My mate went to a few sites and just turned a blind eye when land owners were using not 100% legal means to shift them.

Police do hate them! My mate was full of praise for one experienced officer who dealt with them as they deserve and threatened to confiscate and crush their vehicles (they'd come in from Ireland and it had something to do with how long they had been in the country) he had nothing but contempt for the young WPC who came out first. Seven days is a long time when you have a business employing 50 people and no doubt with orders and deadlines to meet! I'd estimate that at 20,000k in lost wages alone before any fixed costs. The damage to business reputation can only be estimated. The bloody pikeys know that full well and will leave .... once you cross their palms with lots of silver.
The law turns a blind eye even though it's nothing but blackmail but you take the law into your own hands and you are up before the beak. I can't wait for this country to be in charge of it's own affairs.

Turns out they have been "evicted" due to a loophole in the law that they can't interfere with people's right to work. Not before demanding a ransom) and threatening to burn down a listed building. Your mate paid some people off Theno in a similar situation? Can't agree with that the moment you give into any ransom it just leaves you open for more extortion. I wouldn't pay them 5p never mind 4 or 5 figure sums. In some cases (Venkys not being one of them) stubbornness and refusing to back down is a good thing.

Some laws should be based on simple common sense what's complex about blatant trespassing? Swiftly dealing with these types of travellers and squatters should be a straightforward matter. Perhaps I shouldn't have said the police "don't want to do anything" but my point was they have to take some procedural steps before using any force. Not their fault.
