And a very decent pint as well. You can’t beat the Thwaites range these days although I doubt you can buy them where you are.
If I remember correctly we had Wainwright’s at my local store here in Finland at some point. I’m a bit privileged living to a super market that has a huge selection.

When Thwaites sold the Wainwright brands to Marstons it went down hill. Thwaites Gold is now brewed to the original Wainwright recipe and is far superior (I had 3 last night 😎).

I have good memories oh Thwaites from the times I’ve been in Blackburn. The dark mild isn’t bad either if I remember correctly.

Haven't sampled the others but Thwaites Gold is a fantastic pint. No idea where else it is but they did have it in the Millstone at Mellor and the Royal Oak at Riley Green before the lockdown.

Golden Lion at Higher Wheelton for a pint of Gold, The Royal Oak has it on at present as well.

I love the Dark Mild but it is not yet on again at The Royal Oak.

Try the Samlesbury Gold at The Nabs Head, Samlesbury. My mates pub, and he is a Rovers fan.

Making me thirsty with all this talk of ale.

Used to like the Royal oak when I lived in Blackburn.

Despite growing up on Thwaites bitter at my local in Darren I wouldn’t touch the stuff now. Mind you I always preferred Matthew Brown bitter anyway

Try that Gold before committing to a Thwaites free existence.;)

The full Thwaites range is top notch now: Original, Amber, Mild, IPA, and Gold. If you can try the Amber at 4.4%; it is based on the old Lancaster Bomber recipe.

Mike can you remember Thwaites Double Century? That certainly sorted the men from the boys.

I do. The bottle version was 5.2% and the draught 4.8%

I still have a ‘nip’ bottle from both the 1972 and the 1992 Preston Guild that were brewed by Thwaites. I took a photo just for you 😐.

I was only just old enough to go in a pub in 72.... legally that is. Waitrose used to have Double Century in bottles but last time l looked I couldn't see any. I presume they must have discontinued it. Another fantastic pint was brewed during the Thwaites 'seasonal' era when they pit beers on in 3 month traunches. 'Fine Rain' was even better than Wainrights.

They stopped it. They do not do any bottled or canned beers at present.

That one is almost 7€ a bottle here in the store. Got salary yesterday so I might buy that and the Boltmaker for the weekend. It’s a good beer for sure.
They do a dark Landlord as well, it is coloured with caramel.

DBM = Dark Beers Matter 🙄
