Mowbray made two expensive mistakes in his search for a suitable striker of real quality or he might easily have done. Fair play to him for getting Armstrong but one was Gallagher and you know the other. For example if we'd been able to purchase Ivan Toney from nufc instead of Brentford getting him I'm pretty sure we'd have managed at least one season in the prem.

Tony did well for us but he would never have got us promoted. Nobody can say he wasn’t given time though, it’s rare these days a manager gets five years. JDT is far more promising and at least goes to watch the academy games.
But on no metric should we get promoted. In terms of size of the town, our catchment area, our attendances, and our revenue, we should be getting relegated.

Picking an unreasonable bar and then repeatedly sacking managers for not meeting it is the road to becoming a chaotic revolving door club like Watford (but with less money). JDT is very, very unlikely to get us promoted either.

Can I insert the usual response that I get on that topic bwh?

"Ah but...... think of Bournmouth..... think of Burnley..... think of Luton."

Yeah, I start giving up at that point to be honest. Arguing that we should expect our manager to achieve the mathematically highly improbable outcome of being the 1 Rovers-sized club out of about 40 in the football league that makes it to the PL without parachute payments once every 5 seasons, is like arguing that I should expect to jump off Darwen Tower and avoid any broken bones by landing just right on a bush.

Isn't it obvious that its unreasonable to demand highly improbable outcomes in life. Of course we should try to get promoted, but that's very different from making it the requirement. My attitude is always give it a go, but if we simply finish in the top half then the manager deserves congratulations and a new contract.

Correct but promotion would mean a huge rise in income for the club and a paggering every week for the team and the fans. ☹

Well, it would every other season. On the intervening seasons it would mean dominating the Championship and a win every week for the team and the fans.

I know a few Burnley fans who've been moaning recently that they'd rather stay in the Championship, but what they're forgetting is you can't boss the Championship without taking your TV money and thumpings in the Premiership. I assume they wouldn't like to go back to being Championship mid-table/bottom half, their (and our) position in the natural order, and where they were before Dyche got them on the gravy train.

Tony didn’t get us promoted the year Brereton smashed loads of goals in though.

Well he might if BB hadn't knocked off from January on.

A yo-yo club would suit me fine
A season or two playing the monster clubs and the money that brings, followed by a season or two winning shit loads of games - whats not to like?

So, whilst I 100% agree about where we realistically sit in the heirachy - not dreaming big makes sport almost pointless - We have to dream big - if we just sit back and settle for mid table mediocrity whats the point?

On the EFL Highlights show they just said "there have been chants of Tony Mowbray today" (as Sunderland got bashed 3-0).

All this jdt is a genius and will be a premier manager before long is looking a little bit of a sick joke tonight. Is it too late to get Mowbray back?

He wouldn't come back after how the club let his contract expire.

The problem with Tomasson is that he doesn't adapt. Ever since our injury list hit 8 or 9 senior players, we needed to dig in and perhaps ease the intense way of playing. He's chosen to not do that and I think it has cost us dearly in recent weeks.

I do wonder if the intensity of training and the way we play is the main cause of our injury woes. I've never known anything like it. And the "getting up to speed" stuff... We haven't got time. You haven't got time. Find a way to play with the players you have right now and the players you've bought and do it quickly. Bin off the utopian ideas that we can't pull off, stop this project nonsense when we can barely plan one transfer window to the next, and don't be stubborn about your principles and so on. Adapt.

Alternatively, maybe he's just not that good. A year and a half in, and the jury is still well and truly out.

JDT has a poor approach to in game management, his substitutions are absolutely bizarre. If you need to make two HT subs like yesterday, it means your initial line up was wrong. That line up being based upon the work with the lads in training which is worrying. He has a limited squad though and certainly none of the luxuries which Mowbray was afforded and failed with. I'd hate to see a return for Mowbray, he went and with good reason.

JDT looked pretty pissed off yesterday like he's given up though. Can't blame him as he's been shafted by these owners, honestly who would work under these constraints and lies? The players however looked petulant on the pitch yesterday too with one or two having words with each other and a falling or ams particularly Schmozza.

Team needs new blood 1st Jan, as usual it will be a loan signing at the end of the window. Cannot run a club this way.

Well the owners have already sunk a lot of money into the rovers and we can't attract more support without virtually giving tickets away. That leaves the only other option being to put loyalty to the test by increasing admission prices which would go down like a lead balloon and surely be subject to the law of diminishing returns.
Needless to say that I've pondered this situation for half a century and all that I can come up with is some form of amalgamation with neighbouring clubs.
