Interesting report on the News this morning which reveals that Man City are down to one fit centre half for tonight's Champions League match v Shakhtar. Presumably Tosin's load deal isn't reversible?

I'd rather see the back of Evans tbh. He'll be a more expensive bench warmer than Richie.
However where is this lad expected to play? I have Travis and Johnson down as a bloody solid midfield combination with Evans and Smallwood in reserve for injuries / suspensions , Downing and Joe Rothwell deserving of a place plus we now have Buckley and Davenport coming through so unless Holtby is that bit special or can double as right mid I'm not sure where we can fit him in.
Unfortunately I don't believe Mowbray shares my opinion of Travis and Rothwell so we'll have to see where that leads, but if either are either forced out or feel the need to leave in January I'll not be best pleased.

Yes, Mowbray seems to have some ‘issues’ with Travis and Rothwell. From what I have very quickly read upon Holtby sounds a decent player although he has had some attitude problems. It will be good to have competition for places and sufficient cover for a change. I hope Mowbray has pulled off a good move.

Attitude problems eh? I'm making no pre judgement of the lad but he's had a little 'history' with a few managers. We've had more than a few with that complaint since '95 haven't we? Dwight Yorke, Patrick Anderson, Grella, Best, Witcshge to name a few. I seem to recall that the hugely talented Bohinen and equally talented Warhust were both reputedly a 'little odd' too, didn't the squad nickname him Albert after Albert Tatlock?. Tugay the BRFC all -time legend could have his moments too apparently whilst Le Saux was a hot head (although imo that is frequently a requirement of top players e.g. Speedie, Todd, Sav and even little Paul Dickov. I'd have em all back in a heartbeat).

So Hamburg a club in constant crisis it appears. Since the turn of the century they've had 24 managers in 19 seasons with Holtby playing under 7 in his four seasons there!

And this wiki snippet reveals the depth of their current slump.
" In the 2017–18 Bundesliga, after a 3–1 defeat in the first round of DFB-Pokal against the third-division team VfL Osnabrück, HSV managed at least in the Bundesliga a positive start of the season with two wins against FC Augsburg and 1. FC Köln. However, eight games followed without a single win. At the end of the first half of the season, HSV was in second last place in the table. After two defeats in the first two games of the second half, coach Markus Gisdol was dismissed. HSV hired Bernd Hollerbach, a former player of the club, as a new coach. After seven games without a win and a 6–0 defeat against FC Bayern Munich, he was also dismissed. A few days before the game against Bayern, the club announced the dismissal of CEO Heribert Bruchhagen. Frank Wettstein, CFO of the club, has been appointed as the new CEO. On the day of his appointment, he dismissed the sports director Jens Todt. The club hired former successful HSV player Thomas von Heesen as a sports consultant until the end of season. He should take over a part of the duties for the dismissed Jens Todt. For the last eight games in the 2017–18 Bundesliga, the club promoted the coach of Hamburger SV II: Christian Titz. Until then, he was very successful in the Regionalliga Nord (fourth league) and was with his team at the top of the table. With four wins and an offensively minded style of play, the coach convinced the club and received a two-year contract.

After the disastrous season in the 2017–18 Bundesliga under three different coaches, a final day win over Borussia Mönchengladbach was not enough to escape relegation after Wolfsburg won against Köln.[33] They were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time in the Bundesliga's 55-year history."

Anyway he's ours now for the next two years so good luck to the lad.

By all accounts looked good when he entered the fray yesterday.More players challenging is great for the team. The bench was very strong yesterday.

The commentator on Radio Lancs said Holtby set off like he had a point to prove when he came on for Armstrong.
