Where has this come from? Rankin-Costello's contract expires in June 2027, so we would surely be due a very good fee for him if this is true. I would be surprised if he's leaving.

Alan Nixon reporting that Bayern Munich are lining up a £60m move for Adam Wharton which would see Rovers net £9m from the deal.

Rovers still tracking Duncan McGuire with both Waggott and Broughton having been in touch with the McGuire camp since the deal collapsed in January. Suggested fee is £2.5m, but no formal offer made.

Interestingly, there was some mischief-making in January amongst the chaos. It was suggested that Orlando City raised the initial fee for McGuire to £7m in a loan-to-buy option as a punishment for Rovers backing out of the initial deal. Elliott Jackson reports that it was raised to £3.6m, although that's still £1.3m above the original fee that was agreed.

Well whoopy do! Never mijnd net 9m from the deal, that represents a loss of 42m in my book! FFS! To quote the Bard, "Something is (very) wrong in the state of Denmark English football" if that is the case.

There is absolutely no chance a player in this league could reach a point where they're worth anything close to £60m. Aside from clubs that were relegated and immediately had a fire-sale, Ollie Watkins is the record sale by a Championship club at ~£28m, and that's with him being a goalscorer who are generally more expensive than any other position.

Watkins went on to play for England, as will young Wharton, no doubt. Wharton has had to prove himself in the Premier League, even if for a very short period, to reach a mooted figure of £60m.

Even so we've been short changed and I'd wager more than a few scouts of big clubs have been bollocked for missing him.

I suspect we had little choice but to sell Wharton for less than were hoping. With the owners unable to add funds to the club as they normally do, perhaps a panic ensued and we had to get some sort of dough through the door. Unfortunate timing all-round, if so.
