There's a discussion on the Sunderland fans forum about the problems they're having with the away fans being above the home fans. At the first match of the season against Coventry it's alleged (I've only read it on their forum and nowhere else) that a GLASS BOTTLE full of piss was thrown off the top tier by an away fan and luckily didn't cause any serious harm. In the Burnley match there was apparently vapes and loads of coins thrown from the away end causing Sunderland to search and confiscate coins and vapes from away fans in subsequent games.

I don't know if this will still be in force when We go on Boxing day but it's worth bearing in mind. As one Sunderland fan said, they don't mind anyone throwing notes at them :). In all seriousness though, the throwing of stuff from the stands, like the drug problem, seems to be becoming an "in" thing at the footy and it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. It'll be sad if we have to start putting up with netting at the games like we are tomorrow.

I recall a spate of dart throwing back in the 70's and 80's. No wonder football crowds were getting smaller is it?

I've sat in the "home side" of the Darwen End lower for 2 periods as a Rovers fan, 1996-2000 when I went with my dad, and 2009-13 when it got re-opened as a singing end.

First time I don't remember anything being thrown from the upper tier by away fans, second time I only remember it once with Birmingham.

I guess it is a problem with the new strategy of getting home fans behind both goals, and tucking away fans in upper tiers, to enhance the home atmosphere. Wonder if Newcastle have ever had trouble with it, away fans are up in the gods there.

I really do hope the squad spend their spare time over the WC break watching re-run after re-run of the Carabao penalties this week. Just to cement in their psyche that the pens they took were effective and clever and the players that actually tried to be clever and look cool with poncy run ups were largely ineffective.

I hope Brittain is playing on the right. He isn't as good on the left.
