Broken record I know but yet more evidence for why the Mowbray critics this season are utterly baffling to me. This wage bill must be bottom half and I wouldn't be surprised if its bottom 6. How can TM be doing anything other than a good job to have us top half all season when this is what he's working with?
Currently in a play off position too. He's doing pretty well. It could be better but it could be a hell of a lot worse. Plus he's the longest serving manager in the Championship after just 5 years in charge which just shows what a knee jerk lot we all are. Can anybody remember what happened when we were mid table Prem and there were all those completely irrational screams of hatred aimed at Sam Allardyce? I can and Anderson used it to get rid of Allardyce and fleece the club! History will constantly remind us ALL of it too, although I strongly suspect the majority of Allardyce haters no longer go to Ewood now!
The time to bin off a Manager is when he has noticeably lost the dressing room and we are in the bottom 3. I see nothing to suggest either. We are nearer the top than the bottom and he's bringing the kids through nicely. I don't know what's gone on behind the scenes but if I were Waggott I'd phone up Billy Barr and offer a job for him on the backroom staff, before long his 'class of 20' will need a successor to TM and I can thionk of no one better suited.
One day the 'get rid's will get their wish and be able to remind us all 'I told you so'. That's just football and football supporters isn't it?

At 26 the next contract is massive to Joe Rothwell. Small wonder that he's open to the highest bidder. Perhaps now people will understand his refusal to sign a new contract
Most fair minded folk have no issue with any Rovers player trying to better himself. It's how they go about it that counts. Lucas Neil made it clear that he was not going to sign a new contract before his move to West Ham, but he didn't back out of 50/50 tackles and generally go AWOL during games after he already had another gig lined up. Throughout his entire time at the club, Neil was an absolute professional, and never short of total commitment. He didn't swing the lead. I was sorry to see Neil go. As for the 27 year-old child protege, the sooner he's out of the club, the better for all parties concerned.

I don't understand irrational dislike of a highly skilled and very quick player who is one of TMs first names on the team sheet. It's often said that 11 George Bests would win nothing and whilst I was a big admirer of Lucas neill it has to be said 11 Lucas Neals would win even less. I'm also sure 11 darragh lenihans ( who never shirks a challenge) would get relegated before the end of February!
Slks just as a matter of opinion what was your opinion of eyal berkovic? How about the likes of Roy wegerle? Duncan mckenzie? Lars bohinen?

Whilst on that subject if gerrard is tempted away to villa the whole sale might be off anyway although I'm sure some other club will rate his abilities higher than us and pay him a damned site more to boot. As far as I am concerned I am not sure that we have got the best out of rothwell. I'd like to have seen us give home a more forward and free'er role.

I’m a big fan of pragmatic football . A decent keeper , a solid defence and a couple of hard ‘water carriers’ in midfield would be my first priority . Teams that can defend always have a chance . A chance of a late goal to win a game they have no right to . A chance of a last minute equaliser because the defence has kept your team in the game .

It’s not like me to sing the praises of a ‘ fancy Dan ‘ , a luxury player , but Rothwell has something special . He demolished the Coventry back line a couple of games ago , through speed and tight ball control , when the defensive door was tightly shut .

I ageee with Rothwell’s detractors that he sometimes goes missing and perhaps doesn’t do the hard yards like a Sam Morsy . However that’s something that TM has to get his head round . He has a fine , skilful and intelligent player in Rothwell, but he hasn’t quite managed to fit him into a formation that makes the best of his talent. Not a criticism, just an observation.

One of the finest, if not the finest midfielder of his generation wants to sign him . That must say something , surely ?

It certainly does say something to me OOT.👍

Do you ever feel that some of the hatred that we reserve for wantaway players is similar to the rejection we feel leading to bitterness when a relationship breaks up? I do.
Why Lucas Neill was so pilloried is just irrational. He was probably on his last major contract and his agent had found someone to pay him 72k pw. With FOC and therefore with no transfer fee the wage reflected that. We couldn't match that by a country mile and if we had done there would have been a queue of agents outside Mark Hughes office door the day after. Who could blame him? He'd seen out the contract that he signed with us, given us good service and was then doing his best for him and his family. The fact that he went bankrupt could not have been foreseen but that now is irrelevant. The plain fact is that he was an australian footballer with no previous links to BRFC.

Perhaps Rothwell just doesn't like playing here.
To be honest, if I worked for a boss who was constantly trying to make me do things I didn't really like or excel at and was forever bad-mouthing me in the press, I think I'd be looking at my options fairly smartish.

When he does move on it will be interesting to see if his new manager makes him concentrate on tracking back and tackling or if he has other players that will take care of that and will develop Joe's attacking potential.

I do understand fans when they reserve much of their criticism/ scapegoating of want away players I’ve never praised players on the basis they’re under contract or criticised players who want away . Player loyalty to a club is very rare if non existent , players are transitory, looking for the best deal they can get .

Tom Finney is seen as the icon of loyalty. Spent his whole career at PNE , but apparently not through his choice . One of the big Italian teams wanted him and he said he’d have gone in a shot , but in those days , the clubs held the whip hand , Preston wouldn’t let him go .

My love of the Rovers is the famous blue and white halved kit . It’s wonderful we’ve had some of England’s best players wearing that iconic shirt ( an honour for them too ) , but in the end they move on and the only real loyalty to the Rovers is ours .

Genoa wanted to pay him 10k pa when he was earning 25 pounds pw at PNE. He asked the Chairman if he could go and the Chairman said "No I'm sorry Tom, we need you here", and with clubs holding player's registrations that was that.

Be interesting to see if Steve Gerard want him at Villa?

I just cant understand some peoples reasoning on JR. He hasn't just suddenly gone missing because his contract is running down. He has always done it
Someone posted he was an intelligent footballer. Well intelligent footballers don't continually snooker themselves. They find space with movement and guile
Maybe SG has a certain role in mind for him because he is exciting to watch going forward at speed whilst passing people for fun, but SG was a winner because he grafted his bollocks off - will JR do the same?

Just as a footnote - and not that it means much - but JR is up in the lounge changed and ready to go home within 10mins of the game ending - yet I usually don't see another Rovers player for 30mins at least after games?

Will be interesting to see what Gerard does now. Is Rothwell Premiership quality? I’m not sure but I think January is going to be the time to find out.

It's not a question of "liking" a player or not, Theno, I just don't think Rothwell has the right attitude to play for Rovers and his talent does not make up for what many see as a lack of application. I didn't particularly "like" Craig Bellamy, but I bloody loved him at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, when ran out in a Rovers shirt. Same for Chris Sutton back in the day. I've stated my admiration for Berkovic (see below) and MacKenzie in the past. I'm surprised at you bracketing Rothwell in such company. They played at the top and for Rovers:

I'd describe him as an Impact player.
