Still have a great sense of injustice over that!
Keane backed into Shearer, Shearer did not move forward and Shearer's hands were only up to prevent Keane backing in to his space. Old Trafford fell silent and not one MU player complained. Would VAR had DARED to overule Durkin's dreadful decision in the cauldron that was OT?
Just like the Swiss goal the player who was supposedly pushed didn't complain. Maybe a significant factor in the decision and one that I'd maybe take note of if I was judging.

Quite how the Brazil player is supposed to judge what happened behind his back and before it appeared on the big screen is beyond me.

Also the Brazil player involved seems a very cool character, maybe just expected an obvious foul to be given.

I did notice that the Ref refused to look at the big screeen when asked by Neymar. I suppose they are told not to.

All WC players are under instruction not to ask / pressurise the referees to check the videos.

Strange one isn't it but imo football is a physical game and a contact sport and defenders need to be more robust. It was a push but not a hard one. I'm glad that the goal was allowed as I am that Diego Costa scored after catching that Portugese CH with his arm. The Portugese chap wasn't hurt and to go down so easily in order to blag a free kick when last man is just pathetic. I fear that VAR employed to the letter of the law could easily ruin the spectacle of the game.
It was the first game I've watched , although I saw the back end of the Germany v Mexico match . I agree football is a physical game ( or used to be ! ) I've always been puzzled how the rules seem to change when players are in the box and facing free kicks and corners , usually to the benefit of the defenders . More like wrestling than football. If the Swiss player had committed a foul like that ( I thought it was a blatant two handed push ) on the half way line, then I'm sure the referee would have blown up if he'd seen it . The question is did he see it in real time ? Was there too much going on in the box ? Did it register with him ? I doubt it , so VAR should have been used to help him and the goal should have been disallowed

Now if you take it to it's logical conclusion , VAR should also be used to the attackers advantage, to put a stop to the wrestling of attackers by defenders in the box from corners and free kicks . A couple of penalties , backed up by VAR , might result in players competing fairly ( and physically ) for the ball instead of trying to unfairly block or drag their opponent to the floor .

I think it was a push by the Swiss player but by and large defenders get away with that constantly in the modern game.

The defender-attacker imbalance in decisions these days is ludicrous, and its all because refs want to make the safe call. A defender goes to ground when under pressure deep in his own half will be given as a free kick 99 times out of 100, because it doesn't result in anything important. Players and fans have forgotten about it by the time the keeper has wandered over to take the free kick. The same situation the other way and, if the ref gives it, the decision will be analysed massively and held up as an example of diving if the ref got it wrong.

Same applies to the low-level pushing, shoving and tugging that goes on now constantly. Its gone from goalkeepers being a protected species to goalkeepers and defenders. Like I said, due to refs being desperate to make the safe call. The shove that Swiss player gave Miranda was probably about the same as the shoves Miranda had given Swiss centre-forward every time he went up for a header, which didn't even register with the ref as possible fouls.

Kane just dragged to the floor in the box , definite penalty - but they’re never given .

Pleasantly surprised by England . Created chance after chance . Could have scored three or four . Soft goal conceded .

Another penalty ! Kane dragged to the floor again . He might as well not bother - never going to get the ball if he’s pulled down like that

Unless we start some more movement off the ball we could lose this

Typical game at this level . Niggly opposition using every trick in the book . I felt England were as good as I’ve seen them in a long time in the first half .Pace , movement and penetration . Soft penalty gave Tunisia a boost .

Second half England were in total control but didn’t play as well . Kane’s second was a superb header , really well placed - shows the difference a top class striker can make . Two chances , two goals .

All in all a good result that sets them up for Panama . I’m one of his biggest critics but Southgate seems to have got a young group of players playing for him , each other and the country . I thought 3 at the back worked well and the system he played seemed to suit the players

Talking on the phone to a Scotsman at work today , an anyone but England type - he and the rest of his nation will be drowning their sorrows tonight !
