I read 42 Knuckle Draggers 41 Rovers but that's only one source so may be incorrect. I believe we've been the better team in all of those loses and all our wins so being fair it's really Rovers 83 Cock Wombles 0.

For all the hard men looking for trouble tomorrow- on remembrance Sunday - just imagine these lads being asked to go over the top or storm a beach for their country with a fair chance they wouldn't see the day out. I think we'd soon find out how tough they are.

Accrington Pals signed up from East Lancs sent to be slaughtered on the Somme by commanders whose only answer to dug in machine guns was to throw more and more men fwd to be slaughtered is probably more relevant to tomorrow's fixture which imo should not be happening.

The battalion's commander, Lieutenant-Colonel A. W. Rickman, was among the wounded. A rumour spread around Accrington that only seven men had survived from the battalion, and an angry crowd surrounded the mayor's house and demanded information.
The Accrington Pals were effectively wiped out in a matter of minutes on the first day on the Somme. The battalion was brought back up to strength and served for the remainder of the war, moving to the 92nd Brigade of the 31st Division in February 1918."
