If you want someone to keep you in the Premiership he's the man, no doubt about it, but if you want decent football, the odd away win and a Pot in the cabinet you've got not chance.
Welcome back Gav.

Well we can discount all our mangers since Kenny Dalglish , with the possible exception of Graeme Souness who won a trophy but who was increasingly looking like he was taking us down before Newcastle saved his and our bacon. Just look at the current bottom 3 in the Premier League, looked after by mangers who arguably play what is defined as "decent football "( whatever that definition might be) . Clement , Pardew and Benitez . I'm afraid one or more of those three will "decent football " their respective clubs into the Championship and it wouldn't surprise me that if any of them do escape , the footballing young scientist of "decent football " Eddie Howe will replace them.. That'll happen whilst the likes of Big Sam and Big Sean, who some think don't play "decent football" see their clubs safely ensconced in the top 10 .

I started supporting the Rovers in 66/67 and the football wasn't brilliant ( I was more dazzled by the unique shirts) . I had to wait 26 years to see the Rovers in the top flight . I might be in the minority but although I'm enjoying the third tier football being played by Tony Mowbray's Rovers ( some might define it as "decent football" ) I'd swap the premier league football played by Big Sam's Rovers any day of the week , with or without a pot or the odd away win.

I guess if truth be told I'm not bothered what sort of football the famous blue and white halves play as long as it's winning , but for me it was better and more enjoyable winning in the Premier League than the 3rd Division.

a. If you want someone to keep you in the Premiership he's the man, no doubt about it,

b. the mans an arse.
a. valid point and relevant.

b. valid point and irrelevant.

I want a top manager for our football club, not a 'hail fellow well met' sort. I don't want to go to the pub with our manager and neither do I want him to marry my daughter. I just want the best man for the job in hand.
It's like players isn't it? Who cares what their character and personality is as long as they play well every week? The fickle nature of BRFC fans was displayed when we signed the likes of Speedie, Savage, Todd, Batty and EHD. Lots commented that they were the wrong type of person for the club yet they were all top players who gave their all and quickly established themselves as firm favourites with the supporters forcing quite a few who jumped to populist conclusions to end up eating humble pie. .
The types that I can't stand no matter how 'nice chaps' they might have been were the Murphy's, Bests, Grella's Orr's and Witschge's (add who you like) who had no intention or desire to play to the best of their ability for BRFC but were simply happy to take their wages home in a wheelbarrow.

I agree with most of that Gord with the exception of EHD. I hated him when he came, never rated him whilst he was here and was pleased and relieved when he left. He was a disgusting and abhorrent person and unlike some I never rated him as a player whilst he was with us either.

That can only be your personal opinion Al because EHD still became a crowd favourite though didn't he? Especially amongst the awayday crowds.

Haha In defence of EHD - he clearly had mental health issues and did quite well to function in society at all

Of course it's a personal opinion but it's my opinion nonetheless.

I'm not going to get all 'holier than thou' but what happened to having some bloody morals?

EHD is a ****, I don't care if he plays for us, he's a dirty spitting rat, i'd not associate with the **** in real life so why should I like him because he plays for us?

His gaffer is a ****, old sticky fingers, and it doesn't change because he's a football manager as has been proven by the England debacle, he's a ****.

Morals chaps, morals.

 Crowd favorite

Nobody went away under Allardyce because he surrendered before we arrived, was it 250 to Man City, 400 to Anfield and Old Trafford - EHD was a massive hit Gordon, we get more watching in Feni Club!

Not true. I rem that you reckoned that you had stopped travelling away but it didn't mean everyone had.

btw.... I think there's only you and possibly waggy who could ever manage to fit the words Allardyce and surrender into the same sentence Gav!:D

Is this you leading this chant to the crowd favourite?

If you want to uphold morals Gav you shouldn't follow football at all. Or athletics, or any other sport if those 2 are at all typical (and I can't imagine why they wouldn't be). Allardyce is a total amateur in dodgy fiddles compared to Blatter, Platini, and indeed a significant part of all the major governing bodies.

And as for player behaviour, I'm sure there was an opposition player on the pitch in every game Diouf played in that shared his morality level.

I can understand shunning the sport on morality grounds. I can understand ignoring it all and choosing to enjoy the good bits. I can also understand criticising it but criticising Rovers players/staff less out of loyalty to the club (like if there was a "bad un" in the family who you kept giving chances). But what I don't get is reserving true ire for our own whilst dispensing bland impersonal criticism for others.

I also question the consistency. How many expletive-laden criticisms did you make of Hughes and Souness on moral grounds. Both total thugs on the pitch who thought nothing of a career-ending kneecap "tackle".

I think Souness was the thug "I learned very early in my career that it's better to give pain than receive it" who did many kneecap tackles. Hughes was just hard man.... like Flitcroft who never drew back from a tackle.
btw I'll admit here that he did shove his elbow into Andertons ear a couple of times in Cardiff but that was funny wasn't it?
