Asked the question and the word is that we were actually approached by some associate of Jerome Anderson's re: the availability of ZZ and Dugarry. It was actually KMD who turned away initially from showing any further interest by saying that it was a hoax or a diversary tactic as in his opinion there was no way that those two would come to BRFC.
What rubbish. Seriously you seem to take pleasure out of belittling Jack Walker and this football club. If its who I think you may have asked he's a damn liar. You're like someone who does everything they can to discourage their kids and suck any ambition out of them until they grow up cold and resentful for it. Sadly that's what I believe the Blackburn public in general are prone to doing. Maybe its because of their own feelings of inadequacy and a way of making themselves feel better who knows?
Jack may have thought the squad was good enough and as people have said he didn't have a crystal ball with Zidane. I wish people would quote "think BIG" more than something he may not have even said. I blame Harford because if he had made a bigger deal of strengthening the squad then Jack would have supported him. The signing Dalglish was so petty about was Geoff Thomas who did sod all afterwards anyway. Jack didn't like signing players of that age (Gale was a considerably older player but a free transfer as cover mainly) and I fully agree with that policy.
Dugarry said around that time he did speak to Rovers (so hardly sounds like someone who would have been insulted even at the prospect and later in his career he signed for those footballing no marks Birmingham City) but preferred to go to Milan. That person you may have spoken to yesterday said that Dugarry preferred the Italian continental lifestyle as it was more similar to France. Also I will state myself that Milan were a European colossus and Serie A was the best league in the world at that time. He would have turned United down for the same reasons I bet.
Also the person you may have spoken to yesterday said in reference to Venkys that "in truth it is no different to when Jack was here". So anyone who can come up with such complete nonsense in front of several fans (and being recorded as well) can certainly come up with nonsense to a single individual like yourself.
Also the club did sign players that season anyway. Granted McKinlay, Bohinen, Flitcroft (though should be absolutely no doubt he was worth the money overall given he was here almost 10 years and achieved good things) were not title winner level but that's Harford's fault. What may have also hurt was a wage policy Rovers had but at that time United did too. That was the case until they gave in to that cretin Keane.
